12 volt cordless drill

The battery in my 12 volt cordless dril is still in a good condition but i find it inconvenient to have to recharge from a mains supply in the middle of a job. Is it adviseable to make a connection from the boats 12 volt supply to the drill battery to keep it charged and to assist with heavier jobs?

No. A proper charger will sense when your battery is getting full, and reduce the charge rate accordingly. A direct connection will not do this, resulting in overheating of the battery, with a very real risk of its exploding. You really don't want to do this, especially with a lithium battery which will go off like a stick of dynamite!

i had an old style 12v hitachi that one of the the batterys had failed on I dismantled the battery solderd a twin wire with croc clips to the empty case contacts and left it at the boat its so useful

Charge and use at the same time? Most are more than 12v.

However, if your drill battery is past it like one I had, I threw the 18v battery away and 'corded' the drill to croc clips. Torque/speed still perfectly useable off ships 12v.

I guess you mean using an inverter/direct 12v charger? Most expect the battery to be in a shoe for charging.. Get a spare battery?

Don't be afraid to do this with lower voltage drills. I have a drill which originally ran on 7.2 volts of rechargeable batteries now running off the 12 volt house bank.
