12 v eBay wind turbine

According to the graph on the advert the German one seems to stop generating at 16 metres per sec wind speed. that's only a light breeze, 3 on the Beaufort scale. I know nothing about wind generators. Is it typical that they won't work in windspeeds above this level?
 
The details and specifications seem to be ideal for battery charging. I think however that solar PV cells are a lot less cumbersome and quieter.
If it lives up to the specs then all very good.
I have friend who bought a cheap Chinese wind generator for his remote property. The so described regulator contained just 6 diodes to make a 3 phase rectifier. The actual charge seemed Ok if a bit low at first but quickly diminished in typical winds until the voltage generated was not enough to charge a battery. My theory is that the permanent magnets lost magnetism. Apparently not rare earth magnets.
mechanically it seemed OK but after a year or so needed repairs to the hub.
All in all a huge dissapointment despite having the first replaced after a short period.
So if you decide to buy one print out the claims for performance and so if there are any dissapointments you will have something to argue with. good luck olewill
 
If it produces 500 watts with three blades it's going to be a bit big for most small/medium size yachts.....
