100 Hp per litre?

100 hp/liter certainly is a lot and might never be used for marine engines but still?

1.5l BMW turbo charged 4 pot used to chuck out 1,300bhp, and it'd be reliable for all it's life... of about one qualifying session.
 
My little Suzuki GSX-R 1000 K5 makes 160bhp and 120Nm torque, 16v DOHC, normally aspirated, weighs in at about 160Kg. Totally bulletproof engine and razor sharp handling; nothing comes close. 0-60mph in 2.9s, 0-100 in <6s, 0-140mph <10s. Never been stuck in a traffic jam either :D

My bad - some of the posts drifted over to cars :o

On boats the cost calculation parameters differs with the number of engines and the use of a boat can be without adding engine hours.

Life span is longer than for cars, but the TCO thought goes for boats too, however.

Mmm, all that torque going through one axle. Owners will have to open an account at their local tyre fitters and the electronic stability systems will be working overtime in the wet to keep it pointing forwards. IMHO, if the M Div have decided it needs 4WD, it will be for a good reason

All very good when its dry, had a GSX-1000 K5 pull up next to me at some lights the first day I bought my 911 turbo in the wet.... 4WD FTW....

Service & Reapirs
Insurance
Fuel (real life mpg - not the brochure's)

And estimate resale value.

Only then will you know the true TCO and if you compare, you'll notice that improved mpg alone does not affect it much.

Absolutely spot on. The real driver of the cost of car ownership is depreciation. Easily the cheapest car I have owned recently was a secondhand 911 which depreciated at a rate of £3k per year until I sold it a few months ago. I can't think of any new mainstream new cars that would depreciate as slowly as this

I had a 997 C4S which I sold and then bought a 997 Turbo like you I see:) This is my 4th 911 and I love them. I always buy them used, never new because that is just chucking money away. The Turbo is mental but I'm finding it attracts even more stick from other road users than normal 911s. I do try to stick to speed limits especially in urban environments but the number of other drivers that try desperate overtaking manouvres to get past is unbelievable. I've never experienced anything like it before.
Btw we share the same surname too:)

Mine is a 996 Turbo :) I am only 22 so always seem to get some gary boy trying to plant his bumper in my arse! The look on peoples faces as it accelerates off is just priceless... obviously not over 70!

My mums got a 987 Boxster S (3.4) which is also a great car!

Blimey, how do you insure it? The only benefit of getting old is cheaper car insurance. My Turbo costs about £800 a year to insure but yours must be £'000s?
