100 Favourite Power Boats - Old Hat

Re: Politics

Groan...

What I actually said was that we couldn't go lambasting people for non-cooperation. Our tests are impartial and unaffected by the whining noises from the ad dept.

You are not obliged to believe "the crap" about the difficulties in getting boats together for a group test...it's the just the way it is.

The reason we prefer to get boats from the manufacturers is so that they can't use the excuses that "it was a punter's boat, it wasn't it tip-top condition, it's not a fair representation of the breed, and here's a multi-million £ law-suite." If they put a boat up for testing, they can have no argument with us reporting our findings.

Finally, you can "suggest" anything you like about our tests, but that doesn't mean you know Jack Sh*t about it. Full tests take place over two full days under whatever conditions are prevalent at the time. We don't have the time or manpower to do more than two days, the boat owners don't want to give us more than a couple of days, and with some boats burning over 100gph we don't have the budget to go on extended cruises.

Re: Politics

The idea of getting owners to let us use their boats is a great one in theory although I have to say that the attitude of someone who has spent a shed load, new or secondhand, changes fairly understandably when it comes to comments in print once he realises it might materially induce an effect on their investment not unlike tech stocks on a bad day. Strangely enough I've seen a loathed boat become a loved one within minutes when the reality of the exercise bites. By definition owners therefore need to be braver than manufacturers to take part in tests as their immediate interest is somewhat greater.

As for your comment about group tests and the difficulty or otherwise of aranging them, it's a lovely theory that manufacturers and dealers are falling over themselves to make boats available for whatever length of time required, whenever required, wherever required. It doesn't happen that way, it never really did although it was somewhat easier many moons ago.

Re: Politics

Ok Kim. I get the point. Cant do proper tests and darnt say to much. So why not just close down then, it all seems far to much trouble to write a magazin. Why not save the £3-50 a copy and just post on here. It's free. Then just bash Prinvolseafair to bits, like the rest of us. It's a lot less bover!!

Re: THAT TEST IN FULL: hlb\'s boat

I second that. Best boat test ever. ROTFL LMFH. Would love illustrated version, including cutaway drawings like MBM, showing ferret runs and racks of spare gear boxes, and massive compass deviation card, skull and cross bones on the toilet door, etc etc

Re: THAT TEST IN FULL: hlb\'s boat

Yes. It's a pity we had to edit out much of the report. You would not have believed the reality!!
