10 most iconic fairline motor yachts

The Sq58 has to be in the list. An iconic flybridge design which showed Fairline at its best. At least they got one entry right. The Turbo 36 has to be right up there in the shortlist for the best boat Fairline ever built
 
You say cobblers. I say you could take the following sentence to Northampton and back and not feel short-changed:

Funny that you should mention it, 'cause I was in touch with Hugo for writing an article about that, together with a sort of second episode related to the delivery trip.
I'm sure it could have been an interesting story, but his requirements (very understandably) included factual numbers/prices, photos, etc.
And while re-checking the list and the pics of all the boats I've seen, I realized that in several cases - possibly the most interesting ones - the owners wouldn't have been happy to see that sort of details disclosed.
Besides, most of the pics I made were just meant as a memo for myself about the defects, things to be fixed, and so forth - with just a few nice overall views of the (many!) boats I considered.
Bottom line, the idea aborted before I began writing anything.
But depending on how much time to kill I'll have this winter, I might post a brief report here, together with our considerations behind the final choice...

I think Deleted User has this exactly right. In truth it is quite hard to come up with any Fairline boats other than these two that you might reasonably describe as 'iconic'.
 
My interest in boats was ignited by seeing a Fairline Mirage many years ago in Salcombe. It looked so cool and stood out from the other boats around it. For those reasons alone I would include it in your list

The article shows a pic of the later one - where they actually brought the deck layout up to date and finally caught up with the Sealine S28. I assume that is why they think it is iconic.

The S28 as most Sealine was a fairly full boat. The Targa 30 was sleek, and looked like a mini 40. Did not sell a lot to what I know, something around to fifty units.
I would rate the older one above not by little, since the old 30/33 was a huge market success. We have about ten or 12 locally, and I know it sold like 300 units.

Also they have a mistake in the article as they say that the T47 had three cabins, which in fact it had two.

Not sure I understand your comment. The Targa 28/29 had a cockpit that was very similar to the S28 (two seating areas separated by a step). The T30 was on a single level with the forward and aft seating areas separate by a bench with a swinging back rest. On top of that, the T30 had a small sunpad that was of limited use due to it being so small.

I owned a T30 and had great fun in it but would hardly describe it as iconic. However, it had some neat features (such as the coachroof windows) which if incorporated in a T34 would make a great boat even better.

Jimmy, surely something in the Targa range was iconic for you to buy into (T37) and stay in. I consider the 90/00s Targas iconic and IMHO the new T43 was a tad disappointing. Even as a T40 owner I still think my old T34 and the T38 have beautiful lines. Love the T40 but the height for the garage just takes something away and especially the side windows.
 
I think 34 has much nicer lines and is better proportioned but then inside and outside is smaller (I would say 20% difference if you go on square foot).

Really, the T34 needs an extra two or three feet; an extra foot in the cockpit to make space for a grill and an extra foot or two down below to house an enclosed shower cubicle and more space as you enter the forward cabin. Beam @ 3.45m is perfect for the Med (we're actually on a 10m berth due to being a slender boat). It's a first world problem for me though. Its such a share that Fairline didn't evolve this form factor for their new 33 footer but I believe it's not that popular these days.

The fact 20 years on the T34 still looks fab (to me) says it all - esp green tinted windows (rather than grey tint - sorry Pete)
 
I'm not sure if the word Iconic can really be used for a Fairline.

Don't get me wrong, my father in law has a lovely old Squadron 50, but it's hardly iconic and doesn't hold a candle to his previous boat an Azimut 50.

If one Fairline potentially can wave the Iconic flag it really can only be the Targa 34. A boat recognisable by most boaters today.
I believe it led the way in sports cruiser styling and design, however in numbers sold it is peanuts compared to models from Jeanneau, Beneteau, SeaRay etc.

Not really iconic imho.

I bought the T37 because a mate had one and I thought it was just a great boat - but I knew nothing at all about that sort of boat, I just liked his and bought one on that basis. I bought the T40 as a stopgap after selling the P42, but it just worked out better than I expected, which is why I've had it such a long time.
