1/4" drive socket set

Get a Halfords set. Not much more and with a lifetime guarantee

I have one of them too. Beautifully made.

I quite agree, I can't remember the last time my 1/2" drive was used.

I find I use 3/8" most of the time. I don't remember it being quite so prevalent when I got my first car, 30-ish years ago ... improved materials, perhaps? I also have a 3/4" set, the only use I have found for which is the front hub nuts on a 2CV which need torqued up to silly.

Another vote for the Halfords kit. I use it for work virtually every day and have just bought a second set 10 years after the first. Only reason being that over time odd sockets/tork bits go walkabout and it's difficult (and uneconomic) to buy single replacements.

Bought one of those halfords jobbies. Well made lifetime guarantee and really shiny too.
I bought the biggest one, didn't realise how big a box it came in though lol.

I have found that some 1/4" wrenches fail on the socket securing front. That little ball that is supposed to engage in the socket stops working. Then you keep dropping little sockets into places it's hard to reach.
A telescopic magnet wand is ideal for recovering them.
I also use 3/8" and 1/2". Ideally, I prefer 1/2"

I bought a second one after I knocked the first off the bench in my ... ahem ... slightly disorganised workshop. I am still finding occasional pieces of the first one, ten years later.

If you want a really good socket set find out where the nearest Snap On Tools dealer is, most drive round in vans selling to garages, they do a small 1/4 drive socket set, in a few areas there is a central distributor where the vans go to stock up and they do counter sales.
That TENG set looks good especially with the deeper sockets. Always double up on sockets as you will lose some. The main one in use on a boat are 8 = 13 mm. I would also try an find a small spanner set which goes from 5mm up.

The big plus with that set is that it has 6-point sockets. 3 or 4 times over the last couple of months I've had to go and buy a 6 point socket of a specific size to undo bolts that the 12 point sockets have rounded. I may just invest in a set.

Yes, they're effective, if sometimes a little more awkward to use in confined spaces. The alternative are flank drive sockets (that's the Snap-on name; other brands have an equivalent), which engage on the flats, so won't so easily round off the points.
