20 years ago there was a turnbuckle made with dimensions similar to the 1/2" but with a 5/8" thread. I've got 12 of them and thanks to this insurance survey, they're being chucked; they are no longer manufactured. Obviously it was beefed up for the bigger thread. The current breaking strains are approx. 10 and 6 tonnes for the 5/8 and 1/2 (with 8mm wire fittings) which is a big gap between the two sizes and I wonder whether this turnbuckle made 20 years ago was to bridge the gap between 10 and 6 tonnes strain?

I don't suppose anyone would know where to get the 20 year old ones? I can fit the 5/8" turnbuckles but the proportions are all wrong eg the toggle has a 16mm pin whereas the existing is 12mm.

Many thanks.

Thanks npf. I laid the 5/8" and 1/2" turnbuckles alongside the existing turnbuckle and fitting a new 5/8" is so out of proportion that I'm going for 1/2". Wonder if I need to consult the **** of a surveyor who got me into this position? ....

Just had a thought about re-chroming the old ones. Quick google and it seems possible. Anybody done this?
