I am fitting a holding tank inside the cockpit locker, on the other side of the bulkhead separating the heads from the cockpit locker. I would like to fit a 1 ½" valve directly below the tank. Is there such a valve that can be operated from the heads side of the bulkhead? Or does a standard valve actually have a long enough shank to pass through a 10mm bulkhead?

Hallberg-Rassy use a long-stem valve on some of their boats - you can buy online at http://www.hr-parts.com/contents/en-us/p173.html

I think many valves would have a long enough shank to do this or you could add a small extension of pipe. 10mm is not much but you need to be careful to add it in such a way that you still have access to the connections in case you need to work on it. It may be easier to pre attach a small bit of pipe to the tank, stick it through the hole, and then fit the valve. If you only need access to the handle then since most valves have a simple flattened bar for the handle to grip then you can just leave a hole and make up an elongated tool to turn off and on.

You can either make your tank with a threaded spigot and screw the valve directly to it, or you can have a plain hole and use a normal skin fitting through the tank and the tail will be long enough to go through your bulkhead, Attach your valve with a locknut. You could use either DZR or Tru Design plastic.
