It may be grey skies, scudding showers and a cold north-easterly but as it is the 1st April The Naze Tower is flying the national flag, which it will, daily, until the end of September.

So the season starts in typically English summer weather.

I haven't been up the tower since before lockdown but it is always enjoyable. It usually hosts a display of art for sale, much of it extremely good. The Naze is a lovely place for walks, and the car park now takes cards. Somewhere or other I have a slim book on the history of the Naze. Although a lot of it is about who owned this or that bit of land, much of it is very interesting, especially a map showing how far the Naze extended out to sea as farmland in mediaeval times.

The joy of Naze Tower is you can see it with a decent pair of binoculars as you leave the Crouch.

As we live within 300 mtrs of the Tower, with views Harwich Bay, the Wallet and the Backwater, we don’t need bins.

More info at:- THE NAZE TOWER | Walton-on-the-Naze

For those interested in visiting by sea, an overnight stay in the Walton Yacht Basin means you will remain afloat at all states of the tide and it is a genital walk, through Walton up to the Naze or an alternative route along the sea wall costal path.

By road, there is a huge car park with a decent beach below the Tower.

There is a constant fear is that on dark and stormy night the Tower will visit the beach but currently it is a good 200 mtrs from the cliff edge so shouldn’t happen for a year or few.

p.s. Sunny today so the views are more friendly.👍🏻

I’ve never had one of those walks before.
