D6 Outdrive Gear Selector Yolk Failure

The yolk on my starboard drive cracked. Looks like a fatigue mode failure. Causes the drive to stick in gear. Not very nice, as I was mooring up at the time. Has anyone experienced this fault? The parts are back order so I'm wondering if it's one of those phantom Volvo Penta defects.

Who else is fed up with Volvo D6 steering ram failures?

Now less than 1 year old our boat is about to have its third set of steering rams fitted. Apparently the water we cruise in on the Thames is the wrong water for the ram shafts and limescale builds up damaging the hydraulic seal. Mmm, wonder if the Volvo engineers missed the fact that these...

    eberspacher heaters

Get yourself on ebay. Go for a Eberspacher 12v D2 as fitted to commercial vehicles and minibuses. You'll need a few parts to convert to marine application like a SS exhaust flange. Expect to pay 400 second hand inc all electrics. For a 23ft boat you'll only need 2 outlets. Fit one into the...

Fairline Targa 40 Hinging Radar Arch

Is it the arch you want to hinge or the radar and light mast? My Targa 38 was supplied with a hinge-down radar and light mast assembly so that we could get under a bridge at the entrance to our marina. EBY did the modification. I'd be concerned about hinging the GRP arch due to the loss of...

    Motor cruising in the Canaries

Thanks for your reply. So out of interest, and if we wanted to give it a try. What are your charter and school charges say for a few days in the new year? Thanks Rod

    Motor cruising in the Canaries

Just got back from a short break in Lanzarote and went down to their Marina at Calera. Lovely spot and felt really envious with our boat stuck on the cold dank Thames. Has any one experienced the Canaries for motoror cruising? Is it another 'Med' for cruising around? Anyone know about any books...

Help, Considering an offer on a Birchwood..talk me out of it!

The purchase criteria for my first 2 boats was price and accomodation. From my experience, and if you want to go serious cruising, I'd go for sea keeping any day as a first priority in considering a boat. Those AD41 engines are good though!

    New Fairline

Mine also came from EBY and agree the guys and girls there are helpful and do get around to things eventually. I'm just surprised at the volume of issues. The most serious ones for me were a wrongly installed gear selection cable causing shutdown of the port engine, failed outdrive steering rams...
