Hove to and the col regs/racing rules

Re: Two Balls Surely you are only "not under command" if you are down below or engaged in something which distracts your attention, eg having a meal, sleeping etc. The fact that you are "hove to", just means that you have chosen to stop the boat and as long as you are on deck and alert, then...

    Buoys/waypoints - website for updating

I've found that the best way to accurately update the position of buoys used as waypoints is to go to the buoy in question and use the "mark" option to create a new waypoint whilst alongside the buoy.remember to delete the old waypoint and to rname the new one accordingly. JACKTAR

    New liveaboard forum

Last year I split up with the wife and stayed on my boat for a few months (winter). Once you get a routine for stowage, laundry etc. it's really quite comfortable. An efficient indepent heater is essential all year round. Even in summer, it is quite cold at night. There seems to be some...

    A Sailing Parable

We should form a club, those of us who suffer this experience. I did the same. Went out and bought a boat in the hope that wife would come along and try it, enjoy it as I do; then want to share the sailing with me. uh-uh no chance!! I am presently awaiting second divorce. Still have boat...

    ColRegs out of date

Re: In a word, yes, for that and other reasons All that aside, it still makes good sense that the smaller more vulnerable vessel makes every effort to keep safe, by taking whatever steps are necessary to avoid a collision. Call it enlightened self interest if you like. JACKTAR
