Volvo MD2030 intermittent electrical starting issue

I had similar problem with a 2030. Intermittent earth connection. The cable had broken inside the eye crimp/heat shrink that connects to the rhs of the engine block. All looked as it should, and sometimes it was. All separated when you gave it a wiggle. 2 mins to fix

    synthetic teak

I did mine about 5 years ago with isitteak which I think was flexiteaks diy version. (Bought from deacons yard swan wick) Most of my cockpit is locker lids so could take home and do over winter. I was really pleased with the results and looks as good today as when I did it.

I have a large plastic cable tie on mine which I’m pretty sure would be enough to stop the shaft disappearing.

Recurring start up failure on Volvo MD2040

This may not help...... but on my 2030 I had a very intermittent ignition light/starting issue. It turned out to be a break in the big earth tag connection under the engine. Cable had broken in the heat shrink allowing intermittent connection. Good luck finding your fault.

    Sailing in Greece

As far as I know Greece is still on lockdown. Bars and restaurants closed, curfew from 9pm, masks worn everywhere. Infection rate still increasing. How can they lift all these restrictions and allow tourism under those circumstances? Seems to me that they are just shutting their eyes and going...

    DZR seacock direction

Just about to install new seacocks to new skin fittings and tails. The ISIS DZR ball valve doesn’t Show a direction of flow. Which way round should it go. Skin fitting the writing/band side or hose tail?

    Sleeping whilst at anchor?

I found that a good anchor alarm really helped. (I use ‘anchor’) You set the swing range you are happy with and it does the rest. If you wake you can just glance at your phone to see that you are in fact still in the set range. If the alarm does go off as it has done for me when a low tide...

Cobra 850 - Real World Experience

I had a bilge keel cobra 850 for about 10 years, 20 years ago. I loved it and still regard it as a good choice today. In my opinion....... better internal layout and space than the Sadler. Keels are pretty straight and can result in some slamming when close hauled into a reasonable chop (is this...

JFM was a great contributor and I was grateful for his expert advice. Kind of what this forum was meant to be. Unfortunately some more recent contributors are significantly less helpful and in my opinion the forum is worse off for the change
