Nicholson 38. We have 2 young kids (8 months & 2 yrs) and it is as perfect for them as it could be. Easy for them to climb in and out of saloon as only a small couple of steps, and very high cockpit sides so they can't climb out.
Have to disagree. We went there a month ago and it was really mediocre. Went there with wife and child and it was smokey and full of Yottie wannabes boasting about their last sail. But then again, it is in Hamble so what do you expect.
We've done a bit of sailing with our 10-month old - first time was a week flotilla when she was 11 weeks. This was fine, as she slept most of the time and couldn't crawl around. We left her in the forepeak and just tacked her over after we tacked. The chart table made a good changing station...
Sorry, I've updated my profile now. We're in Shoreham, and looking to purchase our first "big boat".
I'm quite naive to the various steps involved - think I understand the purchase process, but appreciate that one of the big things to sort out is where to keep the boat. I presumed it would...
I know this has probably been covered a thousand times before, and I know they're all hideously expensive, but does anyone know where I can find a comparison of marinas and their fees, for the S Coast? Is there some sort of website which lists them all? It's for a 38ft yacht.
Sorry if I'm...
I was sailing an Italian 62ft ketch in the Far East a few years ago. The skipper was a miserable old chap, who used to shout "casso" and "porca miseri" at the crew. He did a few things of note:
- Sailed most of the way round the world in the racing division of a rally without using nav...
Although I don't own a yacht, I have had to do similar exercises for expeditions of other kinds, and find this really helps.
Geeky as it seems, it is worth listing all the terrible things that COULD happen (from fire, MOB etc, through illness, engine failure, storm, to run out of...
In the words of Hillyarder below, "Say something constructive". I've come across plenty of rude, arrogant/ignorant cruising folk in my time, many of whom ARE accidents waiting to happen. You only have to sit at any quayside pub and watch people trying to come alongside!!
As stated many...
Re: Racers vs. Cruisers
Who was the racer/cruiser who steamed straight through the starboard layline (packed with RS200s) on port, hitting and seriously damaging one dinghy, without stopping to check if the dinghy and it's occupants were OK? This was at the RS Open Meeting at Hayling Island on...
Does anyone know where I can get one of these? Just a compact bit of kit which will seal food, spares (eg filters) until needed, and meaning less space wasted?

Re: Surfers United!!!!
Ha Ha!! As a fellow windsurfer I'm with you, just thought I'd stick a provocative remark in there to see who was watching!!
My theory is:
20 knots ++ - windsurfing
5-20 knots - sailing
<5 knots - DIY!!!
