In desperation you could lever the hinge near the offending screw with a screwdriver. That would either pull the screw out enough to grab it with pliers etc or if thin metal pull the hinge off the screw head. If done carefully any marks in the wood will be covered by new hinge. Maybe a small...

Soaked in bath of Vanish Gold for 3 days. Rinsed 3 times in warm water. Transported to rotary clothes drier in large plastic sack. Came up a treat. (I will add that I rarely bathe, shower preferred and I am not married, no comment).

Would not these sinkers rapidly become covered in shingle and literally sink? I doubt they would just sit ontop of it.
Also hitting a shingle bank at 8 knots would surely cause as much damage as hitting a sinker weight? Possibly also a little foolhardy to sail into the river at 8 knots?
