There's a report of a Hallberg Rassy 29 using a builders bag to lie to a storm in the Atlantic. I've made one up for my Centaur but havent had the chance to try it.

    Oxalic Acid

I've used "Patio Cleaner" from B&Q with good results on both wood & gel coat to remove growth/stains. Brush on, leave for a while then hose off. I think it's about £4 for 10L.

    transatlantic on a shoestring

Isn't there a saying that any boat can be sailed anywhere, but not by anyone! Perhaps more emphasis is being put on equipment that ability. It's well recognised that when the going gets rough the crew tends to pack in before the boat does. Sorry to be so pessimistic but I think the earlier msg...

Re: Methinks Me thinks that like most sailors they buy a boat & hope everything works like it's supposed to, a bit like buying a car isn't it? Like many of the threads on this forum this one seems to have gone off from what i thought was a practical question & seem to have been hijacked away...

Re: GPS v Log, some numbers. This last weekend I sailed a return trip to a harbour 25 miles away. My Garmin45 indicated boat speed varying between 2 &3 knots whilst my log needle sulked in the corner. On the return trip un a reach readings were 2.8 up to 7.4 on a reach, the log indicated 3 kts...

    Waypoints and Sailboats

But surely.. If U do all the pencil work on the chart, mark the course changes as waypoints which are entered into the GPS it's then quicker to fix your position on the chart via gps. The rolling road indicates how far off course you are & indicates time to the next course change. You have the...

    Cheap Moorings in the Med.

Hi all, I'm thinking of buying another yacht or taking my present on down to the med with the intention of leaving it there. It would be used for holidays & possibly friend/relative. I have no where in mind at the moment, could anyone suggest places that are reasonably accessable which don't...
