Change of scenery - Summer highlights 2023

Thanks, Andy! Yep, the trailer may seem a bit precarious, but it has also been used for launching and picking up the boat off a ramp… 😎

Thanks, AM! 🙂 Yep, you’re right about the peace and quiet. And I’m sure they will come back but may not wish to have the oldies hanging around then 😁.

Thanks! Its a Grandezza 37 --> 37 CA very popular brand in the Northern Europe, and well built too.

There is quite a bit to cover. The boat route from the most southern to the most northern point is around 200 miles, and there are places where you can take alternate routes, or explore waterways to east, for instance. In the summer the water quickly warms to +20 degrees and over, so it's all...

Yep, the lakes freeze during the winter, this winter freezing started pretty soon after the lift-out. Currently there is around 40-50 cm of ice. Typically it melts by end of April/early May, which is when we’ll launch the boat again. Some of the steel boats are built to withstand freezing so...

Thanks, JFM! ‘Official’ speed limits only in marinas and around locks, etc. Free to pick your speed otherwise. Of course there are social limits to consider, which is why I mostly do displacement speeds in narrow waters and only take the boat to plane when there is enough room to leave a good...

Evening All. I havent' been very active on this forum for a while, but do lurk in the background occasionally. As background, we have a Fairline Phantom 43 which we've kept on the south coast of Finland for the past ten years. At the start of season 2023 for the first time we were in a...

Free bottle of rum for the best photo!

This pic is from a couple of years ago. It was the very beginning of the season and there were no other boats around. Chilly evening, but enjoying the first trip out and the anticipation of summer to come.

Yes, it's the H30. I didn't reinforce it in anyway, I trusted the dealer who had experience of installations on F/line Phantoms. Luckily the two pairs of installation holes were either side of a beam on the inside of the platform. Also, I cut two large 3 mm stainless steel backing plates to...

I always fly manually, I just find a less hassle. But that’s mainly because I haven’t bothered with learning how to best use the various automated features. I’m sure there are some excellent tricks they can do. There’s something to learn next summer.

Thank you. My drone is a mavic air 2, I also used my Canon R6 and a GoPro on the radar arch of the boat. The drone still struggles with the high contrast water/boat scenes. Or I should say I struggle with it, as you can cope with it with a bit of manual adjusting.

I have the manual winch which works fine for me. The part that requires a bit of effort is when the ski is winched up on the pole and you need to pull it down and swing it to the right. Due to space restriction, I can’t have the pole fully extended which means the weight sits a bit too much on...

Hello Everyone, I haven’t posted on here for a while, but occasionally still lurk around. Some of you may still remember me, but for those of you who don’t, or have joined recently, a brief introduction is in order. Our boat is a Fairline Phantom 43, which we’ve now had for ten years and keep...
