Westerly Konsort Sails - free to good home

I have 2 old but intact and functional Konsort mainsails (9350mm luff, 3250mm foot, 10mm bolt rope) An old but OK 130% genoa too, not measured yet. Free to someone who can make use of one/them (new owner to cover cost of postage if required). Had been keeping them as spares but the levels of...

    Bukh DV20 Exhaust elbow

It is never a constant stream of water, nothing or spitting and then a big glug and nothing again. I believe this is because the exhaust pressure needs to build up enough to force through the water sat in the low point at the silencer. Long as its periodically throwing out about a large cupful...

    Bukh DV20 Exhaust elbow

Having now had a chance to get started on this elbow replacement job, there were indeed spring washers on the manifold flange bolts. I've been very lucky and the fittings were all very easy to remove, bar taking the elbow itself out of the flexible exhaust hose. That was hard work!

    Bukh DV20 Exhaust elbow

Fully expecting to have to remove the whole flange when I get a chance, but have not yet had the opportunity to try. From the looks there are no spring washers currently fitted.

    Bukh DV20 Exhaust elbow

I am about the start the replacement elbow job on my DV20 too, and having ordered the elbow noticed the water hose in my new set also has no olive. I assume therefore that this is the way it is meant to be, but if you find that you need one please do let us know!

    Boat Operating Instructions

I have an SOP for engine start-up, engine running and leaving the boat checklist obviously laid out in case it's not me (and I use the leaving the boat list myself so I remember everything). VHF has poster with instructions and boat information. Heads has pictures of how the valves should look...

    Plastic sliders for sink

My Konsort has the original sliding sink, like the photos above, which I intend to keep. I don't find the drainage line is a problem when pulling it out, but it doesn't slide completely smoothly so is a two hand job and I tend to use to main sink for hand washing. Else I find it works well...

    Cruising sailors a dying breed?

I fall into the millennial bracket and consider myself lucky to be able to sail/cruise in the UK. Several of my friends sailed dinghies as teenagers and want to come to come out cruising but do not often have the time. However the main reasons I can do this is that I currently work for myself...

Genoa wrapped around forestay - How to sort?

Thanks, you've answered what was going to be my next question of whether it is ok to put the stoppers a little further up ( since I'll be gaining so much sheet when I take them out the aft sheave!). The pressure and learning was the plan with the racing, it must've worked a bit as we haven't...

Genoa wrapped around forestay - How to sort?

As FairweatherDave says, a stopper knot stops the sheet from flying off through the car. What the best knot is I leave to those more experienced, I have inherited a mix of figure 8's and simple overhands depending on the line diameter. As I mean it (may not be right!), a bagged genoa is when...

Genoa wrapped around forestay - How to sort?

Thanks all, some good comments and things for me to practice. Luckily hasn't put the other half off as 'would've had the engine on anyway if we were that close to anything but mud' (bilge keeler on a rising tide). I'd like to be able to get out under sail just in case, but baby steps! If we...

Genoa wrapped around forestay - How to sort?

We tried wrapping something around but I just couldn't get in close enough with the sail flogging as it was. Maybe blanket to reduce flogging and then wrap. Thanks Occasional, the sheets do go back to a separate aft sheave after the car, I will try taking them straight to the winch when the...

Genoa wrapped around forestay - How to sort?

Blanketing with the main is a good idea, thank you. The sheets are maybe a little short, the lazy sheet often ends up with the stopper knot at the aft sheave when reaching. I can normally get enough on it to get it round the winch in advance when the wind is forward of the beam.

Genoa wrapped around forestay - How to sort?

Apologies in advance for a long intro, hoping for some tips on how I should've got myself out of the following situation. I've been taking part in the local YC winter series to try and expand my (limited) experience and confidence as a skipper. Normally I try to sail with 2 crew members, but...
