    Teleflex cable steering & autopilot

That looks a pretty neat job, given the number of components, & mounting location. Also what a bargain! Thanks for your advice. I'm coming to the conclusion that I'll have to replace the Teleflex cable steering system with hydraulic as part of the autopilot install over the winter.

    Teleflex cable steering & autopilot

After 54 years of sail, I've changed to a 26ft semi-planing, single-engine, shaft-driven motor cruiser. Handling such a light boat with a tiny rudder & so much windage in a Marina was a very steep learning curve - thank heavens for the Bow Thruster. Her Teleflex cable wheel steering also...

    Have I been hallucinating

Could have come from here: Jimmys Farm, Pannington Hall Lane, Wherstead, Ipswich IP9 2AP One of several 'working farms' near Ipswich that are open to the public, & which have rare & exotic breeds. Certainly close enough. kids love it.

    DEHLER 36 CSW

My last Dehler was a 35cws, which had an electric winch & a clutch bank on each coaming either side of the wheel, so there was no 90 degree turn amidships that is on the 36cws, which must add considerably to friction . However the lines were ducted through 2 sets of short stainless guide tubes...

Can a worn Gori prop cause vibration?

Yes. Although both of my D34s had 2-blade Gori folders, they weren't worn in my ownership. However, my D35CWS' Volvo 3-blade folder did wear enough to cause vibration. The wear was in the pins, so I had a local machine shop make oversize pins & redrill the boss to suit.. Not an expensive job...

    Varnish for Cabin Sole

In my experience it definitely is The Puppy's Privates. Restored mahogany/holly strip cabin sole of previous Dehler 34 with just 4 coats & was still perfect 5 years later. So I overcoated the immaculate mahogany/holly strip cabin sole of current Dehler 35 with just 2 coats 14 years ago and...

    Play in the steering system.

In Photo 2, it does look like there is void area at the bottom of the keyway on the underside of the rusty arm. However, before loosening it to tap it upwards, I'd check the 'end stop' which is bolted to the underside of the cockpit sole (it's the L-bracket visible on the far left of the...

    Primocon or Jotun Vinyguard Primer

I'd recommend using Jotun 2-pack epoxy metal primer, which is specifically designed for priming metal that isn't 'bright' e.g. not super clean, such a cast iron keel. It contains aluminium powder. It's very impressive stuff - I did my (large) wing keel almost 10 years ago & it's still in...
