Thanks for your good advice and information everyone. I'll look at the T2L certificate Richard. I think that Stemar has read my mind already - the vessel is being sold for a very good price and I have recommended that the buyer consider this already.
Life's too short to mess around with this...
I am helping sell a boat for a friend who's father has passed away. It was built in the late 70s but nearly all of the paperwork associated with the vessel has long been lost during the owners nomadic life. He has a buyer in Greece who is keen to complete but requires proof of VAT status...
Nice one, not going to break the bank either. Its really worth getting one if they are this sort of price and the PAYG sim charges are worth peace of mind.
I am thinking of fitting a GPS tracker to my boat while she is out on the mooring this season. There seem to be a variety of car/asset GPS trackers out there with an equal number of subscription or data charges. Do any of the forumites have experience using these devices and services.

Yes! I earned something like a Bronze medal life saving badge for being about to swim so many metres, duck diving to retieve a brick and then staying afloat using knotted trousers.
Even though I've ordered a new thermostat I soaked the duff one in vinegar for an hour and gave it some heat. It is now not duff at all so have kept it for a spare.
Hopefully there hasn't been an ill effects on the engine.
Thanks Vic.
I'll have a look for what you describe - reminds me of my old Morris Marina (it was free) when the head gasket went, yuk.
I found one for £25 but was going to see if I could free up this one as I like a challenge. It keeps me out of the pub.
Hmm, I hadn't thought of it like that. I assumed that the amount of water flowing through the water jacket around the cylinder would be sufficient to cool it quite considerably. But hey, I'm no engineer hence my question.
Morning all,
just pulled the thermostat out of my YSM12 and it is stuck wide open. What are the effects on the engine of a over cooling?
I was wondering as I noticed that there was a lot of soot in the exhaust water the other day but put it down to the engine being under a bit of load against...
I use budget baby's nappies to soak up any condensation/drips and once the bilge is dry they keep it dry. The slime does sound like microbial scunge (technical term) to me so if you take away the water this will simply dry up and you can brush/wipe it up. That's what I do anyway.
Aluminium Cleaner
Machine Mart do an Aluminium Cleaner - bet its cheaper than acme Barnacle spray:

Although I expect that the builders merchant brick cleaner will do the job just as well.

Yep I agree - suspect the fisherman was winding you up or spreading disinformation to reduce theft from pots - all too common I am afraid.
Its not normally us yachties but divers certainly do help themselves or even open up all the pots in a fleet to let out the crabs and lobsters. Grrr.
+1
I was once critisied for not replying to an answering post a short time after my original question.....I'd gone out sailing rather than sit on the PC.
