    A day to remember

Either capsize or pitchpole. Takes a touch more effort to right than a hobie tiger :)

    A day to remember

Every now and then you have a day that you'll remember for the rest of your life. Yesterday was one such for me. A good friend asked me to help him move his racing trimaran back from the Isle of Wight to Mersea in Essex. I used to race with him a lot, but that was on his old boat which was...

To stand on, or not to stand on

So you contradict your self! Greek ferries simply won't obey the rules, you insist at your peril. Anybody renting a boat in Greek waters will be told this.

To stand on, or not to stand on

It's a greek ferry. You stay out of the way. Isn't this in the IRPCS?

BNIB Spyderco Tusk Sailing knife, Titanium handles, rust free, ideal xmas pressy!

5 year old? That refers to my salt 1 - a fab knife by the same manufacturer, but with plastic handles rather than the titanium ones on this. Plus no fid. Both knives are good for cutting stuff - one hand opening which is useful if the other hand is caught up in a line somewhere. FYI BNIB...

BNIB Spyderco Tusk Sailing knife, Titanium handles, rust free, ideal xmas pressy!

You can have an Oyster or you can have a Bavaria. This isn't a plastic handled, "rost frei" jobby, it's a fine piece of kit that will still be going strong in many years time. When you lose it over the side, it won't rust, so the next person to find it will be delighted.

BNIB Spyderco Tusk Sailing knife, Titanium handles, rust free, ideal xmas pressy!

This knife is made by one of the best knifemakers in the world, Spyderco. It has machined titanium handles and an LC200N stainless steel blade - a nitrogen-alloyed tool steel that offers extreme toughness and superior corrosion resistance - it is claimed to be better then the H1 steel in my...

    A warning about blade fuses.

The current must flow in a complete circuit - the fuse only has two terminals, so the current flows into one, through the LED (generating light) and then through the load to ground.

The curious case of RHYC and the pirate flag.

I'm sure I read that a member of the public can arrest any ship displaying the skull and crossbones. Can't find the reference though.

    A warning about blade fuses.

The LED probably passes 5mA or so. Unlikely to cause a fire.

Is a sailing boat with its engine on but not in gear a power boat?

In my opinion jfm is incorrect. 'being used' implies that it is used for the purposes of the rule, i.e. propelling the vessel. What say you?

    Round the Island Race

We started at 8am finished at 19:52, 50th overall in the ISC rating system. Managed to hit all of the tidal gates, the tide contributed more to our progress than the wind!
