Not sure what transom or hydrovane mounts you have, but like Kelpie we keep it wedged between the mounting brackets. Handy yet out of the way. On our previous boat it rested on deck lashed to a stanchion

I once solved this by putting a thin wall rubber tube in the hole with a short length sticking out. When you are moving the tube kinks and prevents water build up in the locker. Always attracted the obvious comments but worked.

Weve had the same issue with our marina mooring warps ... 3 strand polyester. I can make the ropes squeak by just twisting them by hand and this noise is amplified by the attachment to the boat when under load. I had to take the load off them with a separate, newer, snubber warp when sleeping...

You've obviously got a niggle in your mind about these which will probably never go away! So change them and sleep easy. Thats what I'd do. Phil

After cleaning and swilling with fresh water empty water and crap with a cylindrical wet and dry vacuum cleaner Henry or suchlike. Just make sure you empty it regularly. Nothing goes through moving parts so no filters necessary. Worked for me. Good luck.
