    Insurance renewal shock

Just had renewal quote from Pantaenius - also 45% up. We have been with them for nearly 30 years and never had a claim. This is taking the mickey IMHO so we shall be taking some advice from this thread. Thank you all.

Tips for removing small screws ?!

We have lots of cupboard doors with small brass-effect hinges which need replacing - some broken, most rusty. I have successfully got 3 screws out of this small door but the 4th is proving very difficult. The screws appear to be brass but are flat head and very small. Since I think there are...

    Solaris sunrise

As there seems to have been some interest in the Sunrise 36 catamaran, and there appears to be very little information out on the web, we've put together a web site giving all the information we have - after owning the boat for 3 years. Circumstances have conspired to stop us sailing the boat...

A small tale of mice, men, engines and costs ...

Johnalison - yes we thought long and hard - having been used to 2-2.5 l/hr on our last boat - and there is the row-away factor too. But the convenience, deck-saloon, space ... I think both of us are still in love with the Rival. Still I do think you're right that there will be a dent in the...

A small tale of mice, men, engines and costs ...

Since I've had lots of useful help from the forums recently on practical subjects, I thought I'd try posting something potentially more contentious :) We currently have an 11m sailing catamaran. Our last boat was a Rival 41 which had a 38hp engine. We feel we have lots of engine power now -...

    Water-based varnish - advice ?

Thank you very much for that. I hadn't thought of oxalic acid but as the ply is blackened it might be ideal. Since the boat is built to be fairly lightweight the ply is probably not up to lots of sanding (unlike our Rival 41 with lots of solid teak). I will also have a look at stains and post...

Getting a custom hard top - ideas please

Thanks - lots of interesting examples. Here are some from other cats that I've liked - one's a Gemini which has a factory-fitted hard top and 2 are a Prout which looks beautiful and the hard top and fit is recent i.e. added by the owner. These are the kind we were hoping to be able to produce.

Getting a custom hard top - ideas please

Thanks for that - it might be cheaper than fibreglass and foam - certainly worth discussing with a boatyard.

Getting a custom hard top - ideas please

I hope I haven't broken too many forum rules with this one. Lots of people have read the thread here on PBO but no answers. So I have re-posted on the Mobo forum in the hope that I may find fellow boaters with hard top experience ! Any comments welcome here too ! If the mods want me to...
