With a family of five, of no doubt varying ages, you need to look for a small trailerable cabin cruiser - Shetland, or similar - with a bit of shelter and a toilet,
Anything less and I guarantee you will be looking to upgrade after a few outings.
I started boating on the upper Thames forty years ago.
Smart uniformed, knowledgeable lock keepers on every lock.
Well kept gardens and pressure washed lock sides.
Regular river patrols, and non registered boats removed.
Now moved to the Norfolk Broads. Where there still seems to be some sense...
The stuff I see advertised comes in straight strips.
How did you do the curved border edges.
Is there another product for this or does the stuff bend ?
I'm interested in the cost and fitting of the various options paid by forumites,
I've just been quoted 'telephone numbers' for about five square meters on cockpit and platform.
If you are coming from the South Coast and into the Thames I assume she is a sturdy seagoing vessel.
Plenty of those on the Thames, but limited air draught for some bridges.
Where on the inland canal system do you intend to travel.?
I guess you have done your homework as regards beam and height...
Can anyone give a 'ball park' figure on the cost of fitting synthetic teak decking in the cockpit and platform of a 37 Ft cruiser ( Fairline/Sealine ) type.?
Is there any firm or individual in the Thames area who can hinge an arch with detachable hydraulic struts ?
Has any reader had this done, and what would be a 'ballpark' Cost?
Does anyone know the EXACT headroom of this bridge on the river Ant.
The indicator boards seem to indicate less than is actual. Today they were indicating 8ft but the clearance seemed about a foot more.
I have air draught of 8ft 6ins and believe I should be OK for most states of tide.
It must be disappointing for hire boaters who would love to visit the city of dreaming spires only to discover a city of dealing dires !
I'm surprised the hire boat operators don't instigate some action - it seems the town council are toothless and EA can't be bothered with enforcement...
