The (fairly modern) VHF transceiver on my boat appears to have developed a fault in that while it still transmits, it isn't receiving. This seems to be confirmed, not only by experimenting but also operating the Squelch control doesn't produce the normal loud 'white noise'. No matter where it is...
I guess Fred and Ann must have got some 'compensation' from having a very good lunch at the Golf Club with 25 other ODCC members the following day! Even the Serengeti well down well.:D:D
I think you mean Ashmount rather than Ashford but that's beside the point. I am responding to your post above as Commodore of the ODCC and must admit I find your account more than a little strange. The Club met at Byron's over the weekend and had boats moored bankside for about 200 feet...
Hmmm..... those of mine are of the 72B variety, nominal weight c12Kgs (and all of mine come very close to that weight). These have an RRP of around £165 each (available at a discount from on-line chandlers at £136) so I have to admit to a more than passing financial interest!! I could even...
Over the years, I seem to have amassed a small collection of large hull anodes. None are noticeably eroded but all are covered by a hard, rough, white coating (calcium based perhaps?). If I remove this coating with an angle-grinder or such (it will need at least that degree of 'force'), are the...
Many thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like I'm going to take off my cheapskate hat and buy something more expensive!!
In the meantime, and as a experiment, I am quite taken with Nigels suggestion that I could
The pins on those I bought are indeed too long and would need trimming back...
These are the type I now have (off eBay).

Many thanks for your offer of help.
G4 do indeed have pins. But because the LEDs are polarity sensitive, the only way they will work (on my set up) is if I put the platter on which the LEDs are mounted into the downlighter housing upside down!! Sort of defeats the objective! ;)
Anxious to reduce the demands on the domestic battery bank, I am in the process of changing the halogen bulbs in the 8 main cabin downlighters with LEDs (12 element, G4 fittings). I naively assumed that the LEDs were like the halogens, ie it doesn't matter which pin is connected to + or -, but...
I think you'll find the picture in the OP is the updated, luxury spec., Mk2 version of this
No accounting for taste, of course, but be afraid, be very afraid - there are several examples of the Mk 1 very much closer to home than Dubai! :D
Pair of Bosch 3-position ignition switches. Used, but only just and in excellent condition. Bought for a previous project but I have now moved on!!

If you decide to go for one of the proprietary products mentioned on this thread, be sure to check the chemical makeup first. On some, you may well find the active ingredient is..................oxalic acid, just dressed up with bits added and sold to you at an inflated price.
I can't help thinking there is merit in keeping the cables to high demand items as short as possible. My boat, as built, has a separate, sealed 135Ah battery shared by the winch and the thruster in its own sealed and ventilated compartment, and less than 3 feet from the respective motors...
We used to do ours with a diluted solution, applied with a reasonably coarse sponge and mildly agitated across the grain. Don't brush hard or go with the grain - teak consists of tiny 'pips' of hardwood that will be removed by too vigorous treatment. Wash off before it dries - but be careful of...
