Previous years they did not enforce collection from visitors, so effectively free. My friend got charged in Feb for visting for 3 hours out of office hours and was cauggt by AIS. In my emails to HM they said due to not meeting budgets (ever) they are actively enforceing, with both on water...
Looks like they have changed (back to normal) since March. I was emailing the HM in feb complaing about the £22 rates as thats what they charged a friend and advertised. The HM said they are checking AIS to work out who to charge. Still £9.10 per day is not cheap.
Langstone harbour is currently the most exepensive in the Solent I think. For 11m boat; to anchor overnight £44 harbour dues (£22 per day), for mooring buoy overnight £59, to stay at Southsea Marina 1 night £93.50 (2x £22 harbour dues, and 1x £49.50 marina fees).
EDIT looks like they have...
Simmilar to everyone else my basics to cover are: personal safety (give them LJ, hand holds, seating, clothing). First aid (location of FA kit). Fire (extinguishher locations and use, using gas safely). Calling for help (vhf, 999, epirb). Abondon ship (liferaft). Can be done in 2-5 minutes. For...
IF you love sailing, living aboard AND using the boat to go sailing can be lovely. If you are just looking for cheap accomodation and need walkashore marina for work probably better renting a room in shared house. Only cheap places in Solent are mooring buoys and it would be hard to live on...
Cheap harbour / river moorings (for the solent) in cowes, langston, gosport boat yard, fareham creek, river hamble, proably a few places up southampton. Some of the pkaces will have waiting lists (like the hamble). Cowes, hamble and gosport boat yard have watertaxis so no dinghy. Have you tried...
Fenders without socks, over number of years, create very fine brush mark like scratches on the Hull. On white hulls you don't see them, on blue or black hulls they are can be noticeable. Fender socks help prevent these fine scuffing. BUT only if they are kept clean, any grit trapped in the sock...
Just thus week....called marina on main VHF, no reply after second call, so turned up the volume which i forgot was down. My hand held I check the battery (switch on, check, switch off) every trip. Tried calling marina on hand held, receives fine but when tried transmitting battery's went almost...
Thinking about it I don't think it was a mayday, but they did call the coastguard on 16 outside portsmouth yesterday afternoon due to 1 (out of 2) engine failure. Coastguard advised sea start but did end up launching gosport lifeboat to bring them in. No critism, it did sound like they needed...
I assume the mayday outside portsmouth yesterday due to lady not being able to control the boat on one engine was the same boat, she did admit on the vhf her husband had been arrested in cowes! Was wondering what happened!
