17.5' 1998 Tracker (tin boat) lost part of bottom support/rail strips

final solution - not going to rivet ... just going to leave it spot welded. After much consultation with other tin boat owners it looks like the rail failed because the hull was flexing (maybe previous owner hit large waves or wakes on a regular basis). When the hull flexes small stress cracks...

17.5' 1998 Tracker (tin boat) lost part of bottom support/rail strips

thanks mates - here is what we have done so far ... An autobody repair guy/friend inspected the rail - what caused the failure were little stress (flex) cracks that started around the rivets in the outside and thinnest part of the rail -there are actually 2 more tiny cracks by the next set of...

17.5' 1998 Tracker (tin boat) lost part of bottom support/rail strips

1st - great forum - been able to DIY our bilge, pour a new transom, fix the OB and now .... When we bought the boat I noticed that one of the rail strips on the bottom had been repaired - someone spot welded on top of a loose rivet - I thought it looked strange so I even snapped a couple pics...

4HP Yamaha kicker motor - hard to shift

THANK YOU - I will drill a hole as there are no grease nipples that would apply grease to the horizontal lever rod If I am careful can the rod be left in when I drill or will the drill pieces/particals foul the rod? PS - here's a picture of our boat - it's not a pretty piece of tin but it...

4HP Yamaha kicker motor - hard to shift

Hi all! I figured out what was going on with the 75HP Force and now I have to ask a question about my kicker motor. It is a Yamaha, 1990, 4HP in good shape. Only repair I have done on it was last summer - was not showing a strong stream out of the pee hole and it was hot so I took it apart...

    1998 75HP Force 2 stroke - steering question - safe to boat?

finally figured it out - thank you Frank! Frank has the same outboard as we do and he knows a lot about his motor - here is his recommendation - we will continue boating and greasing the outboard after every use ... Now I need to get dressed and check my 75. The kingpin (steering tube) is...

    1998 75HP Force 2 stroke - steering question - safe to boat?

thank you gents - you are right - small rod is shifter ... and shifter rod runs up thru the shaft to power head/motor Since the end is so corroded a mechanic friend suggesed I drill a hole across what is left and put in a cotter pin - he said it should accomplish the same job as the retainer...

    1998 75HP Force 2 stroke - steering question - safe to boat?

thanks sarabande, the ring is ... the ring/groove it sits in hangs below the housing as that is what the ring would hit against (I suspect) if you tried to move the shaft upwards (probably why it rusted so bad in the 1st place - plus when you hose the boat off with fresh water you actually need...

    1998 75HP Force 2 stroke - steering question - safe to boat?

Great forum, helped me make transom repairs to my 1992 Sea Nymph (tin boat) After using the boat after the transom repair and while flushing the OB (we only boat in salt water) - I notice a keeper ring/retainer ring has fallen down from the bottom of the steering tube/shaft Some boats have a...

update on my 4hp Yamaha OB and the hot water discharge ...

conclusion 4hp over-heating after trying to avoid pulling off the exhaust plates and checking the thermostat (OK, after i had a couple pints) - i pulled the two plates and found all channels and the thermostat caked in sand and small bits of shell cleaned everything out, cleaned and scraped...
