    River Hamble Mooring Insurance?

After 10 years on the waiting list I have been offered a River Hamble Mooring, Happy Days! The License Agreement requires 3rd Party Insurance for the 'works' (Piles, chain & pontoon). Does anyone have recommendation for policy as my current insurance agent is 'unfamiliar' with this arrangement...

Oxalic Acid, when to use, how pedantic do I need to be?

To be clear, I have no black stains but the wood is weathered in places, as the timber was exposed over lockdown. My intention was a light sand P80 prior to staining with primer and the Coelan. However I don’t want to aggressively sand to remove stains etc. So should I be using Oxalic Acid...

Teak Deck to ‘varnished’ mahogany cabin joint thinking of using Sika 295 UV?

I have been recommended to use Sika 295 UV for the deck to cabin joint, needs to be able to adhere to varnish and teak and UV stable. looking at the Data Sheet, no mention of wood which worries me, but it appears to be widely accepted as the product to use. Very expensive and costly to get...

Sealing traditional glazed ‘windows’ in rebated wooden cabin.

I have traditional 4mm toughened glass windows that sit in a wood rebate that is varnished. The external surface is flush with the cabin and secured with a chrome frame screwed int the cabin side. so I am looking for a flexible sealant that is UV resistant but bonds to glass and varnish. I...

Mahogany Coach Roof should I use Colean

It had crossed my mind as well, I think if you really want a deep mirror only varnish will do, poly coats are great but the finish and depth of colour are not the same.

Mahogany Coach Roof should I use Colean

My Vindo has a laminated Mahogany coach roof which was treated with Colean in 2010, it had lasted very well giving 10 years of maintenance free service so I am considering reusing this solution. However the previous owner made it clear that it was very difficult to work with and had to be...

New Carbide Countersink and Drill Stop for 10mm Teak Plugs

Thanks Baba Yaga, pvb & Mark, The deck is screwed onto gel foam sub-deck (no bonding), the original vindo screws are counter sunk with a slight dome head so I was initially looking for a good quality 10mm countersink to bore out another 3mm for new plugs. However I realise now that I can use a...

    Cornish Crabber 24

That is interesting, I had assumed the staysail would be used as a traditional heavy weather headsail and you would furl the jib first in terms of a sail plan as the wind picks up. I guess this might increase the weather helm as they are known to be heavy.

    Cornish Crabber 24

Thanks for taking the time to respond with such a detailed account. I am encouraged that the hull speed is so good for such a small boat, I was worried that the cruising speed would be significantly slower than what I am used to. Interesting that you mention the Solent Chop, I know they have...

    Cornish Crabber 24

Many thanks for the two references, looks like hull speed is 6/7kts and I can expect to cruise comfortably at 5kts under engine or sail at F3. I have tried to register with owners forum but have not received validation email so will try again. s,

    Cornish Crabber 24

Is there an owner or someone familiar with the Cornish Crabber 24 performance on the Forum? I am interested in typical sail plan and hull speed, points of sail etc. given a particular wind speed. At what wind speed do you typically use staysail only and when do you normally take the 1st reef...
