On a serious note, I thought the smell was diesel, until I got the same smell in the garage and discovered some engine oil had been diluted with rain water. Cleaning the bilge under the engine is on my list of things to do now.

FWIW Simply Bearings were able to supply the 5/32 stainless and 1/8 Delrin bearings. No link, just a happy customer.

Many thanks. Sadly that page is circa 2007 and the numbers mentioned are not operational. The website also has no mention of Hood products and says it is Trade only. Am currently purchasing some bearings from a commercial provider, tricky as the 5/32 stainless and the 1/8 non stainless balls...

To replace the rope on my furler you have to undo the ball race, cue 2 types of ball bearings falling all over the place. So I need a replacement bearing set for what I presume is an Hood 800 SL Chris Wragg's email bounces, and the number I had says he has not been there for several years...

Re the seatbelt, despite many decades of travelling I have never needed one, but do not take the fact that I have never needed one to indicate I will never need one. I agree re the dinghy. The two force 7's I was in, well neither was forecast (I would not have gone out if they had been)...

I have never needed a seatbelt, it has been useless on all cars and aircraft. I drive carefully, have abs and air bags, what do I need a last resort safety device for ? The thing is, we all put different prices on our lives, if the money is not there, it is not there, but I know for a fact...

I'll bet flares have been of no use, and I suspect if all they had to rely on was flares their prospects would have been pretty grim. I agree, owning a single EPIRB does not mean you should not have backup communication devices, however with cheaper and more reliable and testable communications...

Just what I was thinking. If you read some threads on this forum you would be fooled into thinking that EPIRBs are not worth bothering with..... Bet this family will be pleased they have one.
