    Short-changed

Unfortunately it's sometimes a few weeks before I can get round to reading my PBO Subscription copy. Although I've subscribed for over 20yrs and always look forward to reading it. I threw the October edition in my work bag today several weeks after it arrived in the post with the intension of...

    Hiab/Crane

As mentioned in my post, the local farmer has already said he doesn't want to help. I believe because he didn't want to bring his equipment on to the site. But yes, a telehandler would be ideal.

    Hiab/Crane

Thanks all. That looks good DavidPBO. As mentioned the trouble with an engine crane, even a bigger one, is the ground it's on, so I'd still need to use scaffold plank tracks under it to move the engine about. My own crane needed 3 layers of Planks to get the height with the old engine, but I...

    Hiab/Crane

Thanks Db, that would of course work, but with hiring/buying the poles and hoist etc it's probably the same or more hassle than reverting to my engine crane and scaffold planks, which I at least already have. I've discovered today that a Turf company are based really close to the yard, so am...

    Hiab/Crane

An odd request but I'm trying a few places. Does anyone local to me have access to, or knows somebody with, a small truck with a Hiab or similar in the Clanfield/Petersfield/Waterlooville area of Hampshire? Anything with a mobile small crane or lifting capacity really. I need some help, in...

    Stainless - Temporary Tack ‘Non-Welds’.

Thanks all, glad I'm not the only one. I've got some low temp rods for Aluminium, which are a Soldering technique, but despite being great on Aluminium when I tried them on stainless it just formed blobs on the surface. I have some 'repair putty' in the garage which might work, the two...

    Stainless - Temporary Tack ‘Non-Welds’.

Thanks guys. I did think about just marking it with a pen, but would rather it was held in place. Unfortunately I've got no power anywhere near the boat at the moment, and nowhere to plug in a long extension lead. It's on land in a yard, but all I have is my small generator. As mentioned I...

    Stainless - Temporary Tack ‘Non-Welds’.

Apologies, I really didn’t know how to title this question. I’m fabricating and fitting a twin-tube Stainless A frame to my boat. The rear legs will bolt to the transom with welded on pads, but the plan for the front legs involves them having mounting pads welded up the legs a few inches, and...

    Multi tool v jigsaw ...?

You also need a considerable amount of space behind the workpiece when using a handsaw, and actually it takes experience to cut a long straight line as accurately with a hand saw when compared to a Circular saw with an edge guide or piece of timber clamped to the workpiece as a guide. Nasher.

    Multi tool v jigsaw ...?

To jump on the bandwagon, and repeat again what others have said. I wouldn't be without my Multitool, a very affordable Wickes own make one, that has been invaluable to cut in some very awkward and 'blind' places. It does not however replace my Jigsaw as they do two completely different things...

The many forms of butyl tape/sealant

That's the puppy. And good to know it will last, although there is not much left. Think it was @£12 from The Marine Superstore in a tube that's a bit longer than a normal one, and needed some persuasion to fit in my squeezy gun. Nasher.

The many forms of butyl tape/sealant

That is exactly what I wanted to buy last Friday, but it's out of stock at every Toolstation for many miles from me. As I needed it for the same day I dropped in to the marine Superstore at Port Solent to see what they had. Wanting to avoid Sikaflex because of it's adhesive properties I ended...

    Which expensive 'Goop'

I should explain that I used the 15mm Ali plate 14yrs ago to raise the transom when I fitted the XL shaft engine to the RIB which somebody had previously cut the transom of to fit a Long shaft engine. Only the lower engine bolts pass through the actual transom, the upper bolts only go through...

    Which expensive 'Goop'

Thanks all. I'll see if I can get hold of some Butyl tape, but as I'm down at Port Solent early Friday morning I'll probably end up with whatever the Marine Superstore have in stock so I can re-fit the plate Friday afternoon. If I go down the tape route I'm going to need quite a lot I think...

    Which expensive 'Goop'

Thanks Rotrax, worth a go, although I'd rather not have to worry about the tape joins and going round the bolt holes in the middle.
