    EA compliance checks

I get the distinct impression that one only has to moor up then say 'this is my permanent dwelling' then you are free and clear to stay as long as you wish. If so, maybe EA should formalise that and say 'yes you can stay, the mooring fee is £10,000 per annum.' On the part of Thames mentioned...

    EA compliance checks

FYI. Recent response to an FOI request in context of compliance checks on vessels and notices served. For the period 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023, between Teddington Lock and Shepperton Lock, we recorded the following enforcement activity relating to your request: 1. We recorded 263.25 hours...

    Calor 4.5 Butane discontinued

With limited gas locker space I was wondering what Thames cruisers plan to do to overcome this. Calor suggest using 7kg, and I certainly cannot use one in my locker . it just isn't big enough. Your solutions much appreciated.

    Thames cruising 2023.

Volvopaul, whatever you decide be aware that Thames cruising requires deck work, so you need to be able to get to your deck and have space to stand and throw a line. There are odd places that are a little shallow - I sometimes leave the stern 'out' a little to compensate. (Or lift outdrives) I...

Best way to avoid engine issues when using at low speeds

wow .. lots of experience coming out here. I believe the acquired wisdom is that engines are not really designed to run on tickover or very low RPM and it seems to follow that powerful ones are designed to 'work'. Hopefully you are able to get your engines to correct running temperature. The...

Is there a Well stocked chandlery on the upper Thames?

Seems like the clue is in the question, well stocked/upper thames. Penton Hook and Harleyford are nothing like well stocked, Uxbridge is NOT on the thames. As closed to 'well stocked' as you can get would be Shepperton but I wouldnt call that upper thames. Others can be as friendly, accessible...

Get in trouble with BSS certificate. Need help

Re: Forget the top its the bottom. Well that's a result. You couldn't contemplate taking the boat apart every time a BSS was required. Strange though that the BSS examiner didn't immediately look for and locate inspection access points.

    Antifouling Sterndrives

I have VP280 outdrives , Thames based. I recommend Trilux. Good for 2 years for sure.

Diesel Water Separators / Pre-Filters - Difference between these?

One serious advantage of the RACOR 500 is that you can open the filter without tools and change the filter in about 30 seconds. Also, filters come in different micron values. The 500MA comes with an integral heat shield, and as a result is Boat Safety compliant - allowing use of a see-through...

    Birchwood 25 - Volvo Penta 145 question

Just a thought You mentioned a cruddy prop In the same way that a clean hull impacts speed ..... a clean prop is important as well. If its caked in limescale you might soak it in some distilled vinegar (the clear stuff) which will clean it up well ... if its salt water crud then I guess only...

    Birchwood 25 - Volvo Penta 145 question

you do need engine RPM you dont say if your 2800 is in or out of drive if OUT then engine is not producing enough RPM, clearly if IN, then someone may have fitted an oversize Prop trying, unsuccessfully, to get more speed and thus preventing the engine winding up to its high RPM. sometimes...

    Moorings Sunbury on Thames

Wilsons Boatyard at Sunbury ceased as an active boatyard many years ago but the business continued with some hire boats & fishing punts and also running the mid stream moorings on the weir stream near Middle Thames Yacht Club. The business finally closed recently and the hire boats and craft on...
