How busy are public slipways in Hamble in Feb and March?

Should be fine at lands end Burseldon. You can dry out either side of the piles or even on the area downstream of the pile if it is occupied (assuming you have a couple on anchors). Even better if you get there Friday night - shouldn’t be an issue

    so who buys them?

In our often polluted and cold waters I’ve not used our “swim” platform for much swimming but it’s VERY handy in marinas if you come in stern too it allows for much easier loading / unloading of the boat, allowed me to have my elderly mother onboard plus it’s a lot easier for the dog! To be...

    so who buys them?

I’ll fess up that I bought my 40’ Hanse new about 5 years ago. I reckon I’d get back broadly what I paid for her but that value has been held up by the 70% increase in the equivalent new price today. In real terms with inflation I guess I’ve effectively lost 20% and more had I of invested that...

    Airmar DST800 Damage?

Shouldn’t be a problem. Can’t comment on that particular model but my previous airmar transducer was fine whenever I dried my twin keeler out. Would just lose signal and then come back on again as soon as the tide reached the transducer

    Mini Globe Race.

The same issue has reported on other (bigger, twin spreader) Selden rigs - it’s not unique to this class, sadly. Given the downwind nature of this passage it does seem to indicate it might be the mainsails pushing against the spreader tip. Certainly something I will be wary of

Hanse - where do they sit on the quality scale?

When buying my Hanse in 2019 I poured over all the major brands at Düsseldorf, poking behind lockers, looking under sole boards and even looking at core samples from hulls in some cases! I would put Hanse as “above average” from the pack of mass manufacturers with Hanse, Beneteau and Bavaria...

    Most challenging passage?

Many years ago, pre AIS and with no radar I was on passage from France - St Lucia and called in to La Coruna having mostly motored across Biscay. Arrived in the fog, departed in the fog so you can imagine my relief when the fog lifted as we approached Finistere but what a shock! It was very busy...

    Led Hz

Yeah I had thought of that but I don’t have it and don’t know the brand. I could maybe see if I can remove one and look if there is any info on the product but was hoping it was a generic frequency

    Led Hz

Does anyone know what Hz my LED’s are likely to on a typical boat 12v DC system please? I’m trying to eliminate flicker in videos and understand that I need to adjust the camera frame rate to match the Hz of the lights. I can find loads of info on typical US or UK AC Hz but not 12v DC and...

    Vendee Globe 2024, Brits

Sat glued to my laptop having to constantly refresh the tracker to see the close finish between Sam and Justine. The “live” video link is just some inane music. C’mon Vendeeglobe, you can do better than this! These folks have sailed round the world! The fans want to watch…send a camera out there...

    Island Harbour

Hope they can make a success of it. The administrators updates made interesting reading. Looked to me like it should have been a viable business, but was very poorly operated, with poor rent collection from the onsite houses and various other practices which properly executed could have meant a...

    Camera reliability

I’ve just bought an inst360 Go 3 and amongst other uses, planned to use that as a docking cam, albeit linked to either a tablet or its docking station screen. The detachable camera is highly magnetic so could be used on lots of parts of the boat. Insta360 GO 3S kaufen - Neue 4K Mini-Kamera

    Hunter 245 vs Beneteau 25.7

I think Tranona has it right about the Hunter being a small big boat and the Beneteau a big small boat kind of approach - it’s a good analogy. I had a 245 and loved it. I described her as “bionic” especially upwind in some breeze and of course like any Hunter they are very soundly engineered...

    Fabsil leaving marks on deck

Like you I’ve done it off the boat, but also in situ. Have even done it in the autumn then put them back on the boat in the spring (when they must have been properly dry!) and still get this residue washing off. Maybe I’ll give Fabsil a call as it does seem to be the go to product for this kind...

    The price of antifouling

Having spent £28 on 2.5 ltrs of Dulux emulsion when doing some decorating recently, it occurred to me that in relative terms antifouling had become cheaper
