Various works on Mariadz - grey water, bilges, engine oil leak

We had a weekend of fixing and cleaning on Mariadz, including getting to the bottom of the oil leak on our Yanmar engine. https://mariadz.com/2019/06/16/a-weekend-of-maintenance/

Bow thruster issue on a Moody

Thanks for the advice. We'll keep an eye on it but all the evidence at the moment shows that the problem is fixed. Wiring has been checked too but as you can tell from the picture there were a number of melted wires. We have two battery monitors working in different ways and batteries were new...

Bow thruster issue on a Moody

Hi, On our Easter weekend sail, we noticed on our return that there was a huge pull from the batteries. We traced this to the bow thruster which needed replacing :( Any thoughts welcome. https://mariadz.com/2019/05/20/diagnosing-the-30a-drain/

    Fresh water quality on board

Agreed. I was sharing because it took me three years of living aboard to work this out, I was hopefully helping others to come to this conclusion earlier.

    Fresh water quality on board

Hi, In Ipswich Haven, we have always suffered from a lot of chlorine in the water. We have an inexpensive solution of an in line water filter used when we fill up from the hose. We got ours from Screwfix. A few more details in the blog but a top, cheap idea and makes a huge difference...

    Teak decks, chairs and table

Hi, I hope nobody minds me posting this. We have recently spent a bit of time maintaining some directors chairs, our teak decks and an old lattice teak table. Quite pleased with results sing teak wonder and teak oil (not on decks). If you are interested, more info on the blog...

    Cleaning out grey tank?

We clean our every three to six months. Have had too many times when the float switch has clogged and not kicked in as it should = Grey water in bilge. We recently had the float switch fail too which wasn’t ideal. https://mariadz.com/2019/05/18/grey-water-float-switch/

The return of the travels of Mariadz

She caught nothing but weed this weekend. Unbelievably still and quiet in the Stour though. It’s been lovely.

The return of the travels of Mariadz

It’s been a while since I last posted and to be fair since I last blogged after an unfortunate discussion on another forum. But I decided that I was being a silly sulky boy :) I have a few east coast trip blogs which I thought I would share, one from the back end of last summer and the other...

    Engine hours problem resolved

Hello puff, I think you meant that at me rather than West Coast. Anyway, the interesting thing about your joke about facial hair is that we were all that young once and maybe having someone explain how to shave would have helped. Similarly, I’m sure there are people with a broken meter, who...

    Engine hours problem resolved

I also link go the blog if an older question is asked on wifi, solar etc. Copying these answers in each time would be repetitive and I think worse. The constraints of the medium also causes issues when I am trying to share photos from the East Coast - we are out most weekends and I photograph...

    Engine hours problem resolved

Sorry guys. I find the formatting etc a lot easier and better with the blog as well as the ability to add pictures. So I summarise here and then add more detail in the blog for anyone interested. As someone who was traditionally not very practicable, I still blog about the “easy” stuff...

    Engine hours problem resolved

I noticed earlier in the season that our engine hours weren’t rising as they should on the meter but not wanting to delay any opportunity for sailing left it. I was able to diagnose it as an issue with the meter itself and have now addressed it. A simple job but really useful if you want an...
