That’s what I think too Penfold. In which case it may matter that the notch is facing the lip seal to prevent excess wear. Oddly I’d never noticed the notch before and don’t remember it ever being mentioned either but it may matter. It’s much easier replacing impellers than the lip seals. Thanks .

I may be doing something wrong but using an LED stopped the motor running entirely presumably as its high resistance just stops any current at all. However even with an ordinary bulb I found if the light came on the pump didn’t and vice versa. Will try Paul rainbows solution and report back. The...
i have a jabsco pump which automatically activates when a tap is opened to supply fresh water. Unfortunately I can’t hear it running above the engine noise. Is it possible to wire an indicator light to show when the pump is running? .
Thanks for the info. Now have a block and head coming from Pensylvania I think. But once have that will feel more confident taking block off and maybe skimming it. I'm not a confident engineer ( yet) .
Thanks for replying. Its not really rusted through but more the head gasket has i think been leaking for a long time. Gas has scored the top of the block as the leak continued. Let me know if you remember the yard.
