    Bavaria 39 keel problems

None of us have all the details here, but it seems to me that Bavaria should stick to what they do best...good value, conservatively designed CRUISING yachts. What the hell is a high aspect deep lead keel doing on such a boat?? Our Bav 34 has a proper cruising keel. Shallow draft iron with a...

Flaking "paint" on Volvo saildrive prop

There seems to be a black paint under the AF coating on the prop and some of this is coming off exposing the Aluminium surface which in turn has a powdery white oxide coating. I don't know how these props come as new...is this an original (black) paint or something a previous owner has applied...

    Ipad or Galaxy Tablet

Can you really live without Flash? Try disabling Flash on your PC browser (or as Chrome is doing right now...crashing it!) and see what effect this has on news sites like the BBC. I cannot believe people buy iPads knowing flash is not implementable. Or am I missing something here?

    Bavaria 34 - 2001 Vintage - Experiences please.

Recently bought a late 1999 build (with the Germanische Lloyd certification). Very pleased with it so far. Zero problems on survey. Well put together and looks as new after 10+ years. Looking forward to some summer liveaboard cruising around the UK in 2011.

    Bavaria Teak Deck

First time on the forum for a while and up pops a Bavaria teak question! I posted this back in the autumn: "In spite of all the prejudices I'd acquired on these forums, I actually bought a late 90s Bavaria with teak decks this past year :eek: The first question I asked the broker (before...

Why do people lift boats for the winter?

Had my last boat out for the winter. Affect on hull moisture levels (Tramex meter) was zero. High on haul-out, high four months later. Tried to do various jobs on the outside of the boat during January (max 10degC)...waste of time. Boat was dislodged in cradle by 50kt winds, minor (but some)...

    teak or no teak

A bit late coming in here I know, but trying to catch up after a period of absence! In spite of all the prejudices I'd acquired on these forums, I actually bought a late 90s Bavaria with teak decks this past year :eek: The first question I asked the broker (before seeing the boat) was...

    A Luddites forum??

Reading some comments in another post today about most of the things the doom mongers warn against rarely if ever happen (which is clearly of load of old b****cks), it's time we had a new section for the Luddites amongst us! To join the section, members need to: Regret the passing of wooden...

Bavaria 36 - any owners opinions?

Thanks guys. I appreciate the views of those that sail on them as well as owners. To answer some of the points made, we're looking for a comfortable summer liveaboard cruiser for use around the UK, Ireland and maybe Brittany. Can be handled by two, have space for guests and entertaining, and...

Bavaria 36 - any owners opinions?

After looking at so many tired boats from the 1980s and 90s, the wife is getting quite keen on a more recent Bavaria 36. I know all the "opinions" of non-owners on the YBW forums, but are there any current or past Bav 36 owners out there that would care to give me an honest view of +/- factors...

    Advice sought re: USB dongle...

For the OP. Even in the UK, data transfer rate is very poor if outside a 3G area. The Vodafone dongle I have works surprising well, but will connect over GPRS rather than 3G in many areas. This is fine for phone browsers, but not laptops if you want a decent speed. The same problem exists in...

I think you are supposed to call the warden first before using a visitors buoy. Has anyone done this?

Ever seen a motorsailing cone being used?

Hmmm...got one, used it a few times, but we often motor-sail with the genoa out, so a cone in the fore-rigging wouldn't work. But I Haven't seen one used in a long time come to think of it. Most people have roller-furling headsails, therefore no need to visit the foredeck to drop hanked-on sails...

    Double bed on a boat

Been looking as well. Only one I've come across so-far with access both sides is a Westerly Oceanquest (and probably the Seahawk as well) but there are other aspects of these boats I don't like. The Moodys of this size have one-sided access only from what I've seen (336, 34, 346, 35).
