I know people who have done the Solent to Alderney in 5.5m ribs and also jetskis. Not only do you have to pick your weather out, you also need it for the return. I would avoid anything above a F3 in the Alderney Race or Swinge.
I’ve used a standard Ethernet cable between Garmin units without any problems. Unless the latest plotters say they are not backwards compatible with older Garmins that use Ethernet style connections then I can’t see there would be any risk PoE or otherwise.
Interesting that you have suffered a degraded cable too. The one on my 200i did similar but at least it is removable. I would contact Garmin as they sometimes do low price exchange units.
There were quite a lot of VW engines fitted to European boats including Arvor. The smaller blocks were known to occasionally have problems with the actuator on the VTG turbo sticking otherwise they seem reasonably reliable. I have a V6 3.0 tdi in my boat and as mentioned above they are basically...
That seems to be to be quite a lot of cracking in a very localised area. As others have said, it is not unusual to find stress cracks on a rib, but that many all in the same location would concern me and I would want to know more before committing. Is there a similar effect on the other side of...
I remember seeing these people advertising their sealant at the Southampton boat show specifically for bonding rubbing strakes onto hulls. SABA - SABA adhesives & sealants
I've also been watching these various related videos about Leo's rebuild although I tend to find the American MO a bit hard going to watch. They seem to spend an inordinate amount of time discussing what they are going to do, often repeating themselves 3 or 4 times before then showing the...
I have a professional grade FLIR handheld unit which was about £4k some years ago. The advantage is that you can change the lens on the front to alter the field of view. It has a built in screen but can also wifi images on to a phone so best of both worlds. For home interest and occasional use...
This interests me as I have separated some of my network for IoT devices and wifi that visitors can use from my private ‘secure’ network. How do you bridge the two LAN’s in one direction but not the other?
My router has options for virtual LAN’s and I can bridge some of the Ethernet ports so...
I would have thought the pin was made of a fairly soft metal as it’s meant to be sacrificial if the prop jams. Would not some bending back and forth snap it off? As to removing the gearbox that’s fairly easy. I fitted a Max Power thruster a couple of years ago. Unbolt the motor and you will see...
I think you need to reserve judgment until the engine is under load. They can do odd things to bypass air when not needed. My turbo makes odd whooshing noises as you increase revs without load.
