    Repairing a flow soldered PCB

Find the finest point tip for your soldering iron and go for it. The tip of a scalpel is useful to hold the component in place.

    Swanage

The sailing club have some mooring bouys, it might be worth contacting them. We were there a couple of weeks ago, I didn't notice a water taxi.

One lucky man in rubber dinghy in the path of a container ship

I wonder what happened to the escort boat that runs along in front? Probably didn't believe that the dinghy off to one side when they went through would be daft enough to play chicken.

    Speedseal ceased trading

I must be jinxed. Despite sailing orders of magnitude fewer hours than most of the posters here, I've been on 2 boats where they failed. Once just as we were entering Weymouth, so we dropped anchor just outside the harbour entrance and started repairs only to find we had anchored across the...

    Sailboat collides with aircraft carrier

This prompted a discussion in the household about another potential aircraft carrier collision from the past which I thought was apocryphal. It made I larf. Edit: It does appear to be an urban legend but still funny for that.

    Massive squall this morning.

We spent the night on board in the Royal Motor Yacht Club marina in Poole on Saturday. I put the instruments on around 07:00 when a truly horrendous squall came through, I watched the wind speed hit 62 knots. I was so pleased to be in a Fisher with the nice warm, comfy and above all dry...

A basic, possibly embarrassing, question 12 DC wiring ......

In short, no. The switches are simply making a circuit when pressed, so connecting your echo sounder to both pins of the switch (if that is what you are asking) will put the echo sounder in the original circuit in parallel with the switch. So current will flow from one pin, into the echo sounder...

    Poole fuel, who runs it?

Also note the spare unconnected pump nozzles on top of the pumps if you visit. The trick is to take the hose and nozzle to your boat before doing anything with the payment card, put a spare nozzle back in the holder on the pump, then do the card thing in the machine. When you get the OK from the...

Is it just me or are those binos with built in compasses all trash?

Take your bank statement or credit card statement in: If your goods are faulty and you don't have the receipt, you still have the right to a repair, refund or replacement as under the Consumer Rights Act. You just need to show proof of payment, such as a bank statement with the transaction on it.

Longish term parking near Red Jet Southampton

Try justpark, I put in 3 days starting tomorrow near the terminal and got several hits, £15.30 the cheapest and an 8 minute walk.

⛵️ 19th JULY FREED FROM COVID RESTRICTIONS - WHERE WILL YOUR FIRST VOYAGE TAKE YOU❓

I didn't know we were supposed to. The skipper only said I had to do a bit of cooking ?

    Would you?

I've crewed on one going the other way, we were lucky and picked a lovely calm day and thoroughly enjoyable but I wouldn't want to try it with any lumpiness about.

Check out "narrow dog to carcassonne", a couple (plus dog) took a narrow boat over the channel, its an entertaining read. Subsequently they did the u.s. Intracoastal as well
