Have a very gook look at the exhaust elbow they can rust badly and leak but not at idle - at least mine did and when i removed it for a look it was a small hole underneath.
I would personally steer well clear, the amount of gear shifting used on outdrives with a joystick leaves my mechanical sympathy OCD screaming. It’s taken them several years with the outdrives system to get to the point that i feel its worth all the extraweight and complexity.

Just before you decide not to carry flares, I would be slightly careful as most insurance company’s insist yay your vessel is correctly equipped and until informed by the Coastguard that any of these are a recognised alternative if they will try to wriggle on a claim yo hsbr given them a lovely...

I just sold my twin engined AD41 engined boat over 5000 hours loved every minute. Just change the oil often - every 100 hours or 120 if pushed and they will be fine, like all old engines they have bits that give issues but the hours are minimal if they have been looked after.
Ok so try taking the top off at 20 knots. The pressure from the water into the hull fitting is pleanty to sink you, I have had a lid fail on a 50 foot boat at speed, the bilge pumps had no chance whilst we were on the plane as the sea water filter lid was below the water line, we had at least 20...
