Tohatsu 3.5 two stroke won't tickover. Help please.

Re: Tohatsu 3.5 two stroke won\'t tickover. Help please. You dont say which model but i assume it is low hp. At the top of the carb is the t/o jet, normally a small steel screw with a spring over the shaft of the screw, sounds like it maybe running too rich so tighten screw slowly till engine...

Almost certain stuck piston rings, on the 1GM 10 a reasonably easy job when engine is out. Jim

    yanmar 1 GM10 low compression

I had similar problem. Sticking piston rings was the answer, had to remove them with a hammer and chisel and they aint cheap. But you have already spent a fair amount whats another hundred. Jim

should i go for satin or gloss for the interior of my boat

Depends on state of wood and your prowess with brush and sandpaper, if you are going for a quick finish then matt. If you have the time and patience to apply a minimum of 5 coats of good quality varnish on a well prepared surface then gloss. Remember it's not what you put on for a good finish...

would you trust a sheet bend for your mooring ?

'Turn a bowline over and have a look. You will see it's a sheet bend and with a double turn through the 'hole' it's a double sheet bend. ' It's not. A sheet bend is for tying two ropes together. A bowline is for tying a non slip loop.

    standing rigging question

I think the answer is straight spreaders opposite mast. Swept back spreaders behind mast

    Fuel injection timing Yanmar 1GM10

Have you checked the compression or are you assuming it's okay because of the head job. It could be sticking or broken piston rings. Jim

    Teak cockpit table treatment

Teak Wonder. It leaves the teak new colour (i.e. it barely darkens the wood) but seals it. Exspensive but very thin so will last a long time. Jim

    Deck caulking

Not sure of your set up but unless there is a joint for caulking this is unlikely to be the source of leaks. Is the plank sprung? are parts of the deck loose?an easy check is to soak the decks and allow to dry. If any parts remain damp then you have water under the deck. Jim
