Thanks Tim, I'd be interested to know more. I guess you bought the 'new' sail which has an IoW maker's name. She's currently being repaired as she had sustained some nasty below the waterline damage which had been maliciously concealed with Sikkaflex when I bought her. A new plank, resetting...
Thanks. We'll look tomorrow. I think the fuel is running through the fuel line but not being drawn into the carb. I've found a diagram of the carb on the SOS site - will have a good look tomorrow and see if we can crack it.
Many thanks. I've seen that one and it's helped me to identify and date my motor - August 1968. It was running when I bought it, two years ago, but has sat in a shed since then. My son and I have stripped it, freed it off, cleaned it up, changed the needle and put it all together with new...
Many thanks. We've done the needle conversion and she's all back together. Won't fire though - suspect the magneto. Also the fuel doesn't seem to be getting through. My son - the competent mechanic - is googling as I write!
I have a Burnham Scow 11' clinker-built wooden dinghy. I'm rebuilding an old Seagull Forty Plus 3-4 hp motor and wondered whether it was advisable to use this occasionally on the dinghy. I don't want to put undue strain on the Old Girl! I don't have an outboard bracket at present, but it...
Thank you SO much for sending me so much useful information about my boat. Very interesting to see from the drawings that there is intended to be a jib. I only have the mainsail and there is no sign that a jib was ever fitted - although a spare Burmuda main with the correct sail number came...
Many thanks, David. I've just looked up the spec, and the BC-173 cradle does fit. I've got the radio, which is fine, but have lost the charger and cradle. How much do you you want for it?
Many thanks. I'll send you a PM. I'm in West Somerset. I'll be sailing occasionally on Wimbleball Lake, but more often on the Helford where I'll be basing my caravan.
Many thanks. The builder's plate says Stebbings, Burnham and the number 242 is marked on the hull. The number on the sail is correct - 242 - and there is also a Burmudan mainsail with the correct number and an I-O-W sailmaker's name. I'm told she was on the Island for some time - don't know...
I've recently bought a gorgeous 11' wooden dinghy, built in 1954/55 in Burnham-on-Crouch by Bill Stebbings. She's currently named 'Tofino' - was previously 'Swallow'. Sail number 242. I bought her from a guy in Devon who had sailed her at Dartmouth. Apparently, she was based in the I-o-W...
In a house move, I've managed to lose the cradle and mains charger unit for my Icom IC-M35 radio. Before I pay almost £30 to replace them, has anyone got anything secondhand?
