I need an ICC practical test to apply for a small sailing craft Sailing ICC as I will be sailing my yacht overseas soon

I did a course with Rob on boat handling a dozen years ago. Good bloke. He is the author of the RYA’s book on boat handling.

    Battery Boxes

OK, thanks for clarifying that. I am now minded to knock-up a MDF mould, round of the corners with a router and make a liner up in GRP chopped mat.

    Battery Boxes

I have considered this and also making a large removable GRP liner but as AGM batteries are acid free, I was thinking that perhaps there isn’t anything to cause damage……?

    Battery Boxes

My ER450 batteries are in battery boxes. If I was to upgrade to AGM’s, would they still have to be? The space lost to the boxes and the space between the boxes makes all the difference as to which AGM’s will fit. Like for like, all AGM’s seem to be slightly longer. PS. would replacing the 2 x...

    Evolution Autopilot

Thanks Paul. Really useful as always.

    Evolution Autopilot

I need to look at what will be the best route Paul but my guess is that it will be circa 7m. I am not down again until the bank holiday weekend. I think the existing cables to the binnacle were pulled through as bare cables so getting the the Seatalk NG drop cable through with its end...

    Evolution Autopilot

All very useful stuff- thank you. It would be easier if I was down on the boat and able to see what is what but from the manuals and from an old photo I have of the wiring of my S2, it seems rather simpler than I was imagining. I was hoping to buy the necessary additional cables in advance but...

    Evolution Autopilot

I am planning to upgrade my autopilot to an EV1/ACU 200. The ACU will be located in the same position as the current S2 Smartpilot. A P70S will replace the ST6002 at the helm but will I have to buy and run a new Seatalk NG cable all the way back to the ACU 200 or is there anyway I can use the...

    Plastic Laminate Adhesive

Thanks Deeb. That’s really is helpful. I was veering towards using the contact adhesive but your post makes me think that the Evo-stick Wood Glue Exterior I mentioned above, is the one I will go with. My plan is to laminate over the entire frame, insert a sacrificial piece of MDF in the aperture...

    Plastic Laminate Adhesive

Thank you. I don’t think positioning is going to be an issue as I will oversize the laminate and rely on the router trimming the laminate as I cut the final aperture to size.

    Plastic Laminate Adhesive

I am wanting to face a 15mm x 550mm x 350mm sapele frame with plastic laminate leaving the edges exposed. I happen to have an unopened can of 3M Fastbond Contact Adhesive 30NF which I was planning to use but I was using Evo-stick Wood Glue Exterior (Fast Setting Formula) over the weekend and...

    UV Resistant Yellow Arctic Cable

Yes, I think that typically 240v is blue and yellow 110v but it doesn’t seem that is is strictly adhered to, even by the suppliers.

    UV Resistant Yellow Arctic Cable

I am after some 2.5mm2 UV resistant yellow Arctic cable for a replacement 16A shore power lead. Plenty of suppliers online but I a want one that will will resist fading and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Any suggestions?

    Electric dinghy inflation pump

Thanks Woozy. I am looking to replace a Bravo BST 12 HP and this may be an option though both the low and high pressure outputs are lower.and my dingy is a bit larger. I like the integrated battery - as long as it will do a full inflate and a bit of a deflate on one charge.

    Electric dinghy inflation pump

May I ask what size of dinghy you are inflating on how long it takes?
