I owned a Shetland with a BMC 1.5 and it was completely reliable. I rebuilt it using readily available parts, not a problem. One tip was that i upgraded the starter to one from WOSP and it turned over much quicker and therefore started easier. Great engine

The Autoterm modem is exactly what I am trying to achieve, on a chinaspacher. Given that Autoterm are regarded as one of the best heaters, and they provide this option, then perhaps it is not as risky as some would perceive.

That is effectively how my existing heater works. The chinaspachers have an lcd and a small keyfob, so there must be a way of activating.

Many of the boats in the marina have diesel heaters running on timers whilst unattended, so dont see this as a real issue.

As someone who travels frequently between Cairnryan and Belfast, there are no channels as such coming off the boat, and regularly there are Eire registered vehicles, they are just glad to get the traffic off the boat as quickly as possible.

I use these but find that they are not effective over a period of time, but are good to close up tubes whilst working on something repetitive.
