My New Project: 19' Hurley Alacrity 'Artful'

We had an alacrity 19 years ago and it was an awesome little boat. It was really seaworthy and sailed very well. It would surf easily downwind in strong winds and regularly exceed hull speed embarrassing bigger, heavier boats. Ours had a cold moulded ply hull and i want aware that they did a grp...

    Yacht Rescue

You have to question the skipper's decision to attempt the passage alone in those conditions. It's not as though he's been caught by an unexpected summer gale.

    Bilge keel performance design

Lots of French yards do high performance bilge keelers. Check out RM Yachts for example

Does your wife support your sailing

When I bought my boat, my girlfriend had visions of lying on the foredeck in a bikini sipping Pimms but that bubble very quickly burst. I am grateful for the fact that she does enjoy it on nice days though and she gets stuck into maintenance tasks without complaint but she's definitely not mad...

    Deck shoes - best ones?

Crocs all the way. They are comfy, drain easily, don't even get smelly when they have been wet and they grip like a Yorkshireman's wallet hand.

Outboards - Dinghy and Back up for small Yacht

I would agree that the priority should be for the primary use so a short shaft would be my suggestion. If you want to use it as a back up then a transom mounted bracket would be a possibility rather than relying on lashing the tender alongside. I have tried towing my 26ft yacht with my 2hp honda...

    Vintage charts

Does anyone know where to get hold of vintage style charts for display purposes, you know the sepia type ones you see in seaside pubs? My missus thinks one would look good in our new house. Ideally looking for north Wales, Anglesey, Menai Straits areas.

    What you broke this year?

Lost overboard: two pairs of shades (1 Ray Ban, 1 Oakley), a hat, a boat hook, a winch handle and a kill cord Broken: one nav light, VHF set, throttle cable ( just as I entered the Swellies) I can deal with the breakages but the overboard losses are bloody annoying. Need to be less clumsy

    Confusing spinnaker

If you look carefully the clews are blue and green, not both green. If you are going to use different colours for the corners then red, green and blue seems a strange choice unless they relate to port, stbd, head.

    Confusing spinnaker

This spinnaker is clearly designed to comfuse or it's setting well upside down. (Look at the colours on the corners)

Spray hood will it fit my boat?

A sailmaker could recut your main and raise your boom if you were willing to sacrifice performance for comfort otherwise it's a case of sailing with sparayhood down. Either way a decent sailmaker can make a hood to fit any boat.

    Yanmar 1GM10 not well.

Update: I pulled the fuel system apart today- the tank and pick up pipe were clear, the hose to the primary filter was clear, i bled the primary filter best i could using a syphon pump connected to the pick up pipe to pressurise that end. The hose to the lift pump was clear, i tightened and...

    Yanmar 1GM10 not well.

Yes the tank is a plastic jobbie in the lazarrette and the manifold is removable. I will add that to my list of checks. Thanks for the replies.
