We had an alacrity 19 years ago and it was an awesome little boat. It was really seaworthy and sailed very well. It would surf easily downwind in strong winds and regularly exceed hull speed embarrassing bigger, heavier boats. Ours had a cold moulded ply hull and i want aware that they did a grp...
You have to question the skipper's decision to attempt the passage alone in those conditions. It's not as though he's been caught by an unexpected summer gale.
When I bought my boat, my girlfriend had visions of lying on the foredeck in a bikini sipping Pimms but that bubble very quickly burst. I am grateful for the fact that she does enjoy it on nice days though and she gets stuck into maintenance tasks without complaint but she's definitely not mad...

A sailmaker could recut your main and raise your boom if you were willing to sacrifice performance for comfort otherwise it's a case of sailing with sparayhood down. Either way a decent sailmaker can make a hood to fit any boat.
Update: I pulled the fuel system apart today- the tank and pick up pipe were clear, the hose to the primary filter was clear, i bled the primary filter best i could using a syphon pump connected to the pick up pipe to pressurise that end. The hose to the lift pump was clear, i tightened and...
