Basically yes. I usually rewire the yeoman to a new plug & matching socket for the bulkhead. However, my last ebay bargain usually came with the correct plug & socket.
Are you sure you have an NMEA2000 socket? The Garmin specification suggests not, however, you should be able the use the existing power data cable to connect to an NMEA 0183 device such as your yeoman.

We use a battery to battery trickle charger for the starter battery to make sure it doesn't drain when away from the boat. The domestic bank is charged via solar.

I don't have the manual to hand, but from memory, you use a combination of the two filters to determine the light.
If the light is visible through both the red and green filter it is white, or something like that. :)
