A few new pictures of our Historic vessel now restored

Just wanted to share these pictures of our historic sailing vessel now pretty well fully restored. Have a look here for sailing pictures and here for shots of down below. We worked really hard to get her this way and would enjoy any comments you might have. Hope you like them.

Should I put concrete in the bilges?

Cheers mate sounds like a good solution If you would like I am in contact with one of the heads of the HMS Victory restoration and can ask where they get there pitch from. If in the US can suggest another source.

Should I put concrete in the bilges?

Cement in wooden boats Please do not do it mate. I have seen so many wooden boats killed by this cheap way out. It works for a few years then you can kiss the boat good bye. Several things happen none of which have to do with the cement itself. One is that no matter what you do fresh water gets...

Should I put concrete in the bilges?

Oldsalt has the right idea mate I would follow old salts advice on this one and go with the tar. Pitch would be even better if you can find it. I have seen that done in many a boat and with no bad results ever. Cement on the other hand has caused the death of more than one good boat where the...

A trick for longer life less headache from your outboard

Languages et al I speak 7 different languages and often do mix my grammar without intending to. For that sorry. I have lived so long away from my native South Fla (most of my education was in Europe and then a lifetime at sea mostly under sail) that my English tends to be more British - hence...

A trick for longer life less headache from your outboard

posts with commerical links? I hope you do not think what we do is "commerical". If so I really suggest you go and have a look at what we really do. Google "humanitarian and Vega" or maybe "historical vessel Vega" you will quickly find us. Vega spends almost her entire year either gathering...

A trick for longer life less headache from your outboard

Great ideas and inventions Just be careful NASA does not rob your idea and use it on the Mars missions. Or maybe to test the latest space plane's systems? Hi tech always breaks down, so does low tech but low tech you can fix.

A trick for longer life less headache from your outboard

Who cares as long as we are sharing our ideas? I put this up in good faith trying to be helpful and to stimulate a thread on how to have fewer headaches with outboards. The idea being to, "Share practical, hands-on information". I put another thread somewhere in here about a way we use as a...

A trick for longer life less headache from your outboard

Agreed and glad of it. I agree this is nothing new for people like us ( you sound like you have a few mile under your keel also) but more for those who are new to the sea and her ways. Remember how glad you were when someone told you about it for the first time? It is so easy for us to forget...

A trick for longer life less headache from your outboard

You know how outboards loose power when repeatedly stored for a few weeks between uses? Well here is why and how to prevent it. This trick is not for long term - over the winter- type storage which should be done differently. It is also best for the average cruising sailors dingy outboard - not...

A few good shots aboard the Historic Vessel Vega

Lines and more lines Meggi did a very fancy one a few months ago with 220 meters of 1" line that was amazing to see. Went in a "U" shape around the dingy on the cabin roof and covered most of it. I really should have photographed it also.

A little trick to stop pesky little deck leaks from the Historic Vessel Vega

Peskie leaks et al Our problem is we have a 118 year old historic vessel and are pretty limited in what we can get away with. Can't have things not looking original...well withing reason that is. This little trick works well for wood checks etc. Sure there are better products for plastic and...

A little trick to stop pesky little deck leaks from the Historic Vessel Vega

Electronics and seamanship I think Valiente hit the nail square. Why go to sea if what you really want is to bury yourself in the artificial world of unHollywood or have your brain turned to mush in other "entertaining" ways? There must be a reason why seamanship, navigation, and sailing are...
