Engine size needed to cruise a 52ft Dutch barge on the Thames

Engine size needed to cruise a 52ft Dutch barge on the Thames

One other thing to consider with larger engines is cooling. It is very difficult to fit big enough skin tanks to cool bigger engines the size of the tanks in sqft needs to be engine HP/4 so for 90hp that's 22.5sqft or two tanks roughly 6ftx2ft this means it is better to fit a Heat Exchanger...

Engine size needed to cruise a 52ft Dutch barge on the Thames

Parglena is 60ft 35ton and has a 120hp Ford, which was ample. Personally I wouldn't go below 90hp as a decent amount of power gives you an edge especially if you want to go down to the Medway/ east coast. 50hp is not enough for a barge I had that in my 60ft narrow boat.

    Victron MTTP 75 10

The lights on the fridge sre my main problem at night. A tea towel over it cures that. As for the blue light on the Victron a small square of black insulating tape does the trick unless like mine it's in a cupboard so I can't see it.

    Any good sailing NW Devon/Cornwall?

There is more water for more time in an East Coast estuary than is in my local estuary (Taw/Torridge). After 4 years I still haven't decided what to do about a boat, leaning towards a Drascombe so I can just potter round the estuary when there is some water.

WTF are people paying £60k for a camper van with 100k miles on the clock? And a decent Westerly is under £15k 😀

Indeed it is Cost of keeping my ex boat, as of last week, on the water £3500 a year. Cost of keeping my caravan including storage when not in use £350 a year

Victron Charger - Blue tooth will not connect from my iPhone.

There is a code on the underside of the victron that will allow you to reset the PIN so you get access. Well there is on mine Details of more chargers below. Bluetooth Smart - Resetting the PIN code If the PIN code is lost, it can be reset to 000000. The way you reset depends on which product...

New AGM batteries have caused low charge alarm to sound at tickover

On a 12v system fitting a 47ohm 10watt resistor in parallel with the ign light usually means you will never have to blip the throttle again to stop the alarm sounding when you first start the engine.

Patio magic and green algae on canvas canopies

Used it on my covers for years, spray on walk away then a few days later its clean. However Never use it when covers are on the boat it contains chemical that are harmful to marine life. I always do my covers on the drive at home for this reason.

How big is your Calorifier tank?

50hp Beta, under 2hrs and the calorifier is hot. Eberspacher heats it in about the same time. Its not a real boaty boat its a Narrowboat ;)
