Only boat I have seen VW engines in is the Greenline 33 so I think they are not too common, which might mean that maintenance and parts could be a challenge.
Over-fishing definitely an issue but climate change has affected availability off our shores as warming sea temperatures have seen them move further north as they prefer colder water. Similarly sea bass, which were rarely seen in the southern North Sea, are now abundant in those waters.
We use WeatherTrack, which uses GRIB files, and I have found it to be pretty good (accurate) for our U.K. inshore / N. Sea boating. I don’t recall paying a fee for it from the App Store and there is certainly no subscription.
We pulled out of the purchase of a well known make of sports cruiser, partly due to stress cracks (and other issues) in a location you wouldn’t expect them. In that case myself and the surveyor were fairly satisfied that it was just the gel because we crawled around to access spaces where we...
Worth saying that stress cracks are often a feature of GRP being slightly flexible and gel coat not being flexible. As long as they aren’t replicated in the GRP then they aren’t a structural problem but they are there and re-sale might be an issue.
Osmosis is a fact of life on many boats inland and they change hands routinely so it isn’t the death knell for a boat. It can affect re-sale with some wary buyers but many just crack on and accept it for what it is.
With regard to what you can do about it I had this very conversation with the...
I was quite surprised to hear that an S34 has osmosis problems, not something that I have heard of before now.
The good news is that a lot of S34s were built so if that is the boat you like another will crop up.
Don’t know about Volvo but I am currently installing Vetus electronic throttles with a canbus system and each unit has a series of tiny switches in the base that must be set in a particular sequence depending on the location of the unit.
Having only looked at a Trusty at a boatshow I can’t offer anything specific but with that size of boat and a 110hp engine only displacement speeds will be achievable. The hp required to reach hull speed is likely quite a bit less than 110 so I would think it will be able to punch a tide but...
I can’t help but if you aren’t already a member the Broom Owners Club might be worth a try.
There is also a Facebook group called Broom Boats The Best that might be worth joining.

I covered the upgrade to the dash here
Other options such as vinyl wrap are a lot less expensive but the original needs to be in good condition, which ours wasn’t!

I haven’t anti-fouled props and shafts before but suffered notable fouling last year so having read about HSMP and Velox on here, that is what I have applied for this season. I didn’t abrade the primer once dry though so we will see how that works out.
I intended to strip the previously...
