Been using the same homemade long d2 dyneema softshackle for many years now. Before used a chain grab & also a rolling hitch but softshackle seemed nicer so it stayed in use.
Slightly to the east of previous & a mile or so off >
As you no doubt know the Canaries are famous for the wind acceleration zones, so far I'm visualizing a high pressure being created north of the island when the wind hits the mountains and a low pressure downwind, then the wind is...
Carrying this on a bit, similar today & question is - where does the air go? Must go up? No wind at the boundary- anyway, sailing today enjoying a nice downwind breeze then it died & within about 50m it reversed! Pretty much exactly 180Deg >
Tiny little spike in pressure >

You get to view one satellite target free for a week though. Or did anyway, can change the target as well. Track a friend to the Azores once who was using class b. Got a ping at least once a day.
It's free to set up a receiving station in marinetrafic then you can send AIS sentences to a ip address/ UDP port. Doesn't have to be data received from a receiver, you can make your own ais messages. Signalk has an app to do this among other options. Simple to make marinetraffic think a boat is...
They are on my boat already 😎😁 Though the little Honda gets a run now & then just to make it feel needed 🙂
See water coming out of an exhaust for a while now in the anchorage, it's "well you ain't got no Lithium mate, have you" 🤣
when it's wrong does it show up in the wrong place on both vesselfinder & marinetraffic at the same time? Tried a mmsi number search just to see what comes up?
Also, when it's wrong you can see where the reporting station was in marine traffic, just checked a position of mine sent online & it...
Can't remember what make my panels are.
But they're better than everyone else's 🤣🤣
Wind gens are a rare sight (and sound 😎) these days in cruising anchorages. Times change.
Firmly at the DIY end, 4 x 300Ah Catl cells delivered 450UKP, fuse €100. No BMS but very careful monitoring, still very closely balanced after 16 months.
Charged by 300W solar, 2 x victron smartsolar mppt & smartshunt does a great job at stopping charging just before 100%, cost same for any...
Little bit of data from using just the windlass to pull up the hook yesterday with no engine involved should anyone be interested. The boat had already been moved closer when taking off the snubber so this is the last 20 odd metres at a guess. Little spike at 12:50:15 pulling the anchor out of...
Though compared to a victron system with mppt's talking to a smartshunt if you spent lots of time using your batteries/solar your cheap controller will kill them. Either through overcharging or if it has float it will undercharge them. Same end result, dead batteries well before they should be...
which also change constantly, the victron app trends shows the MPTT solar voltage hunting around to try to keep the power output as high as possible, one of mine right now is averaging just under 17v, the other above 18v. Busy little devices 😁
Quite a few oldies on here to listen to. Enjoyed In Broken Water by Adlard Coles. And of course Slocum, both his book & biography.
