It's very rarely used (once or twice a year), so this "50%" will last me through this season and then I will buy a new one with a suitable expiry date.
Back to the original post: the chandlery was responsive via email and quickly agreed that it was not alright to send a re-arm kit with less than 50% shelf life. They did not have a better option, so made a refund. They did not ask the kit in question to be sent back. Very decent customer support.
Just bought a new re-arm kit for an automatic lifejacket. "Replace by" date is 11.2025, just 1.5 years away from now. Is it fair or shall I return it to the retailer? All other lifejackets I have had initially 3 years on them.
That's an interesting thought. The boat will be coded for sure and I will get commercial endorsement myself. But I don't think club skippers will need it. They are not paid to sail with passengers. They are paying to take the boat out just like other members on board. It's more like a shared...
That's a good point. I'll try to prove to them that I know what I'm talking about. Although it is of course quite limited experience as I'm only starting. Also probably a good time for me to get a higher formal qualification as my old Coastal Skipper is probably not sufficient for them, I was...
Last time it was mainly about finance :) This is sorted now, and the only bottleneck is insurance. I did not expect this to be a problem - hence a severe frustration...
The business is a crossbreed between a yacht club (with own boat) and charter (where crew and skipper are club members). There...
I'm really struggling to find an insurance company in the UK that would insure a sailing boat used commercially (very similar to bareboat charter, but not quite). I talked to almost every insurer in the UK and the answer is always the same: sorry, we can't insure charter use. It's easy to...
I see that my post was judged as a pitch to a lender :) It's not. I'll explain a few things.
1. I'm not going to share all the details of the venture here, but of course, will disclose it to the lender. There is a growing demand for what I'm offering and I have tested it and have a contact base...
I'm about to start a small chartering venture and looking for ways to finance the boat as I can't afford buying it at full cost. Please don't question viability of this venture in the thread: there is enough said about this and my idea is quite different anyway. It will generate some money from...
Unfortunately buying from abroad might be a necessity. Boat demand in the UK means that prices are often higher or a suitable boat cannot be even found. While in some traditional charter regions there is little demand for charters because of travel restrictions and therefore companies or...
What if I, as a business, buy a used boat from a private seller outside of EU? I pay VAT when bringing it to the UK and can reclaim it if I prove to HMRC that it is purely for business use?
It's a very early stage of an idea, there is more consultation and work ahead. But I thought people here could suggest a good starting point by answering this question:
What are tax implications when you, as a business, buy a boat from:
a) UK, VAT paid
b) EU, VAT paid
c) Croatia, VAT unpaid
If...
