I use the outboard to steer at low speed or in tight conditions.
Make sure you have the rudder under control or it may counter the trust of the outboad.
Sometimes if you replace batteries you have to wait a few hours for the internal battery to charge up. Also you may have to re-initialise the unit if it starts back up.
I have used a thin strip of plywood with a bit of carpet stapled to the end to paint the inside of the box. It is not the best solution but it does work.
Re: battery charging from a Honda outboard
Same as Colin24 except I ran mine to the battery selector so I can charge the separate batteries. It has worked fine for five years.
I Have an Evinrude that is the same model, decals and paint differ, and the same year-the book directs the use of 50:1. As fuel octane rating today is lower than the year of manufacture I went with hotter spark plugs and if the carb is clean you will have few problems with that side.

On mine I had to replace the thermostat and clean out the housing. If the motor has not been used in a long time then there may be a scale build up in the housing, mine had a lump of the loose stuff that formed after the motor reached operating temperature.
Check the venting on the fuel tank. My...
Two more US sites are
www.trailersailor.com and www.sailnet.com
The first was started for smaller sized sailboats and has some brand related forums on the site. It is rather like the PBO site with a do it yourself bend, and some of the posters are a good deal bent.
The second has several...
I work part time in a marine store in the US. We had a lady come in who had put three of the harness type auto inflate jackets in the washing machine. She wanted to know when we were going to repair her washing machine.

On my 24ft boat I rigged a jib downhaul. There is a light (6mm) downhaul line that goes to an eye with a spliced in ring.
The piston hank goes through the ring and then clamps onto the forestay The line then goes down to a turning block, the type that has a spring and eyestrap...
Re: fishfinder, locating the glue site
Only while you are finding a location if you are going with the epoxy method, unless you are going the pipe and mineral oil route then yes it must be in the oil.
If your boat is double hulled or if you have a laminated core in the boat then a through hull...
Re: fishfinder, locating the glue site
I have done about a dozen, 'glue in' mountings.
Get a plastic bag and fill it with water and put the transducer in to it. Slightly dampen the outside of the bag and place the bag in the locations where you would like the transducer, when you find the...
Re: The valve gap...
I stand corrected, you are right, the point is that the gap has not changed over the years.
The additive I use is called PRI-G and I have no interest in the firm.
US fuels have many additives to help cleaner burning, the problem is that said fuel does not have a...
