raymarine autopilot steers 180degree wrong on wind

I hate Actisense with a passion, and their technical people were real asses to deal with. Worst customer service I've ever seen. This was dealing with my Raymarine ST40 wind instrument, connecting to a Pelagic autopilot. In the end the Pelagic people solved the problems.

Can you remember the first sail you ever had and what in

1981 during Christmas vacation in Aruba. (My parents were living in Venezuela and I flew down from University of Ottawa to meet them.) A Sunfish sailboat, rented from the hotel on the beach that we were staying at. I got a 30 minute lesson on how to beat upwind and how to right a capsized...

Market flooded with cheap boats because of the coranvirus

I had been long watching the Figaro Beneteau 2 boats, hoping that they would be a great price after the Figaro 3 took over. But what happened is that some sailing schools bought up the whole fleet of 2's, so there are absolutely none available to the public. So now I'm wondering, if the...

    Sextant and astro/nav

Not only is it absolutely free, its also the very simplest and easiest to understand approach to navigating by the sun. I wrote it because I read 5 other books and still could not understand what the heck they were talking about.

Why o why will my gel coat not dry, I’ve done everything that they said....

It is very possible that your hardner/catalyst is old and expired. That stuff has a definite shelf life of one year or less. I went through this exact problem several years ago. Scraped the soft gelcoat off and started again with a fresh bottle of catalyst.

Whyfor : Forward central daggerboards ?

When I wrote my singlehanded tips book, I interviewed the designer of an IMOCA 60 and we discussed this in detail. The answer is that the dagger board actually twists the sailing direction of the boat into the wind. As you know, most sailboats crab to leeward slightly. This is how the keel...

No wonder there’s no fish in the sea!

Once we had lost the cod fishery on Canada's east coast, we came to realize that we just can't keep fishing forever, regardless of the size of the boat. We need a lot more work on farmed fish. What we're doing now would be like McDonalds hunting wild buffalo for the Big Mac.

Should we be worried about Jeanne Socrates

She was just up on the hard for one day to scrape the bottom. Some big growth, but nothing unexpected. Moving back to the Victoria harbour front now. And Jeanne is taking a trip back to her homeland.

Making bread in a seaway on an alcohol stove?

Instead of bread, with yeast that needs to rise in a warm spot, you could try baking powder biscuits. Much simpler if you are just looking for something bread like to enjoy. You can even make them in a covered pan on a burner, rather than needing an oven.

    Replacement jib sheets

Another consideration is what is required to get a grip from your winches. I moved down a size and was disappointed to find that I now need 3 wraps around the winch rather than the previous 2 wraps. Otherwise the sheets slip when I'm grinding. I plan to move back up to the larger size.

Paint the portholes red and hide it in a cherry tree.
